Fallout 3/New Vegas Windowed Borderless problem
While following Gopher's tutorial on setting up Fallout 3 (New Vegas too), he selects both the windowed and borderless options, then selects the correct resolution (presumably his native one). However, I cannot do the same. It only allows me to select 800x600 and 1280x720 resolutions (my native is 1920x1080) which effectively makes the game unplayable because of the tiny screen. The other reason being that the fake fullscreen mod I'd use with it was instrumental in preventing the game from crashing every 5 minutes. Can anyone help?

Specs:

CPU: i7 4790k 4.00 GHz

GPU: GTX 1070 8GB

RAM: 16GB

OS: Windows 10

Why do you even want to go with windowed borderless? That's only an option if you're trying to squeeze a bit more performance out of your game, but your video card is more than enough to go with full screen.

Because playing in windowed borderless mode with a fake fullscreen mod reduces crashes significantly. No other reason.

There's other ways around making your game more stable. Like installing FOSE and getting the NVAC (New Vegas Anti-Crash) plugin from the Nexus. Yes it says New Vegas, but it works for Fallout 3 as well.

I use both. And while they alleviate the problem somewhat, it's not anywhere near enough. At least for my system.

Have you tried installing third party codecs? Your options are K-Lite or Sharky's. I used to have a problem with New Vegas when I tried to run it with Windows 7, but adding in those codecs cleared up my problems.

Same as above. Alleviated the issue, possibly anyway. Wasn't enough to make the game playable for me. As I said in my original post, the fake fullscreen mod was instrumental in preventing crashes. I need a way to make that work again.

OK, one more thing, though I suspect you've already done it. Did you alter your ini file in order to prevent the game from using more than two CPU cores? That would be these lines in the General section:

bUseThreadedAI=1
iNumHWThreads=2

I have done that, yes. Probably done everything one could think of, since I followed Gopher's tutorial videos closely.

That's curious, I've never had a problem getting this game to run on any system. Ever since I added NVAC, it never even crashes on me at all anymore. All I get now are minor glitches that usually get fixed with a reload.

Hmm, even on my old PC (which is really old and slow and used an older OS) NVAC didn't really help all that much. Did the fake fullscreen mod help you at all? It's the only thing that made any real difference for me in the past.

I've never used that mod, I've always just gone with full screen.
