Fuel consumption
Haloo,

I am running in career 50% Race length. I keep running out of fuel on the last lap, If I go to mix 1 I lose enough power I get overtaken on track.

I am in a Sauber

Are my gears wrong and I burn too much fuel as a result ?

I do not run on mix3 and I follow my race engineer's orders, pit when he calls for it etc.

Any help would be great, I could finish in the points if I could keep running.

Thanks everybody.

Hello, I'm not too sure how F1 2013 handles fuel and most importantly fuel saving apart from the different mixes as it is not a full simulator. However you could try lifting off before corners a little and exiting them in third gear or most importantly short-shifting.

During races u can look at how much fuel you will have left after all 30 odd laps have been completed just as the tyre wear and all that. I notice that when I short shift I gain a lap of fuel every 10 laps or so, I try to take myself down to 'Optimal'.

I drive Mercedes on legendary and have not experienced any issues. What assists are you using and as shaun asked what fuel strategy?

Well much to my chagrin I just learned about the different fuel strategies, Cautious, Normal, and Agressive. The problem is when I checked my fuel load in the setup menu it reads I have 58 laps of fuel on board, so I just assumed that was going to be enough fuel to do a 50% race.

I'll try normal and see what happens, default was agressive for me.

I have only a few hours total time in game. I'll figure out the fuel conservation in time. I just did not realize that the 58 lap fuel load was a misnomer.

When you're actually racing you can bring up a gui with tyre wear levels and additional fuel on-board. I'm not too sure what button you would have this mapped to on your wheel but its normally B on a X360 pad. It shows how much 'extra' fuel you have and dynamically changes as you're driving.

For example: +1 Lap means that you could drive another lap 'after' the race has finished. 'Optimal' means you will run out on the finish line/just after race. Finally any - # Lap is how many laps early you will run out.

Once you bring up this menu I think you will find it a lot easier to manage the fuel. As you said with the 58 laps on board, this means how much your car will weigh and perform, not actually how much fuel is in your car. Codemasters has kind of screwd up some aspects of the car setup utility/feature. Just experiment with some setups or bring up the GUI menu.

Yes sir, my electonically inclined racing bretheren M05F3T. I started to monitor my fuel status during the race, and made it through.

My question now is; If I go with Agressive fuel load out, making the car lighter and faster, will it balance out my sector/lap times when I lose power during the time I have to use Mix 1 ?

Conversely what if I go Cautious and run on Mix 3 for a while ? I know the extra fuel weight will slow my times down and add tyre wear, but would that loss be compensated by running a significant portion on Mix 3 ?

In longer races you could even run into negative -2/-3 laps, and then make it up by short shifting or mix1 at the end of stints. I always go with agressive fuel load and manage the tank lap by lap as you can afford it. Most tracks have different sections, ie. China mix1 could be used up to turn5. Lowering the mix before sharp, slow turns helps too.
Of course mix3 will always improve your laptimes regardless of the fuel load, but watch out for wheelspin.
Starting with agressive mode doesn't force you in to using mix1 during the race. You just start with no extra fuel.
So AGRESSIVE will set you up with OPTIMAL displayed on the HUD, so you will make it to the finish without having to change the mix (assuming you dont drive on high revs or drive on AUTO Gearbox-definitely not recommended as it slows you down massively).

If you do go out on agressive fuel load and stay on mix 2 for most of the race, you are likely to have actually gained + 1 lap of fuel by 2/3 of the way through (Codemasters stupid fuel saving again) So in theory you could still go agressive and be lighter, while not having to use mix 1. Still your driving style could play a big role in what I just said above.

Note: Due to Codemasters Tyre Wear system, enabling Mix 3 will increase the amount of tyre wear gained from just normal racing (Excluding wheelspin and drifting out of corners). This is the same with mix 1, it lowers the tyre wear gained slightly so you could use this to your advantage alongside your fuel management.
