BRINK
Choppy FPS
So I'm running GTX 1050 and this game is still running about 15 - 20 FPS and ive tried playing with the settings, making new config fies and it still isnt fixing it. Anyone else have this problem or a solution?

I have a 980ti and the FPS counter says I'm getting 200+ but there's a constant stutter every 2 seconds and it's driving me nuts.

I'm having a similar issue, but with a GTX 1080Ti....
Never used to have this issue before and nothing has changed in regards to my specs. I'm not getting low FPS like that, but I'm getting stuttering whereas before I kept the game locked at 72 FPS with RivaTurner without issue, now its stuttering between 63fps and 72. Doesn't seem like a big deal, but because its not consistent FPS, I end up with stuttering making the game virtually unplayable.

Glad to know I'm not the only one with an issue though. If I find a solution, I'll definitely share it.

The game's frame rate can be unlocked by editing it's configuration file. Here's a quick guide on how to do it: https://pcgamingwiki.com/wiki/Brink#Unlock_FPS Keep in mind that if you follow all 3 steps and the game is still acting choppy, follow the 4th additional step and set the value for r_visDistMult to 1.2 in the configuration file.

The weird thing is, I've only started experiencing choppy FPS recently. I've never had to do any fixes before and I've been playing Brink for years. So I'm not sure if its Brink, a driver update or Windows...
I doubt that its Brink though. The game has run stable for me for years. :/
I'll try to suggested fix though.

Edit: I've actually tried the suggested solution above and it didn't work. My FPS is actually already unlocked, but for seemingly no reason the FPS is choppy. It never used to be choppy. I used to get a stable 60fps without issue and without having to do any fixes. So it leads me to believe that its not a Brink issue and more of a Windows update or driver interfering with Brink's performance...wouldn't be the first time Microsoft or Nvidia broke a game for me.

Wouldn't surprise me either. The last major Windows update nearly broke my computer. Sorry I wasn't able to help. I guess problems like these are just to be expected with a game that's almost a decade old.

Hey guys, accidentally stumbled on something that fixed it for me. Not sure if it'll help you guys, but it's worth a shot. I clicked the DLC link out of curiosity about what was available, and the steam overlay popped up to bring up the store page, but I noticed in the back that the game looked like it was running a lot smoother. I closed it and noticed this was actually the case. Whenever I start the game and it's choppy, I just shift+tab and back out which fixes it. Like I said, it might not help you guys, and I don't know why this affects anything, but it's worth trying and only takes a few seconds to do. Good luck and hope this helps some people.

I had the same issue and found disabling vsync made it much better. It’s still not running like it should, but that might help you too.

this game is one of the many reasons why variable refresh rate monitors are more common

I have a Gsync monitor and still have issues with this game. Didn’t used to have issues though. :steamsad:

It's so fun regardless of it's framerate, I binged on this game for 3 days straight until I got bored with it the same way I got bored with the game at launch on PS3. Not enough maps in a game with excellent art direction!

Yeah game used to be fine for me, now it's horribly skipping. Tried reinstalling and whatnot, nothing helps yet...

I've tried a bunch of different options/settings, nothing's worked so far

IT'S FIXED! Now lemme see what the hell I did..

Ok now it's not making sense. Tried backtracking and it's still running fine regardless..

- AvG is running all shields (tried toggling all off).
- Reinstalled the game to my ssd earlier, game still was choppy.
- Windows update wasn't doing anything in the background (that was an issue on a few games).
- Updated my driver using NV Slimmer installing only the core stuff earlier, still was choppy.
- All nvidia profiles were set to default after the driver update, still was choppy.
