Game Won't Launch
Hi, I'm twitchicus, I bought the game last month and have tried the suggested workaround but still can't get the game to launch. The support discussion thread says:

"- Can't start the game on Windows 10/Error message appears when trying to launch the game

Change the Postal2.exe compatibility to Windows XP SP3. To do that go to steamapps/common/Postal2Complete/System, right click on Postal2.exe and hit 'Properties'. Next, go to the 'Compatibility' tab and change the compatibility to 'Windows XP (Service Pack 3)'
Alternatively, you can delete Postal2.ini file located in steamapps/common/Postal2Complete/System and verify the game cache(Right click on Postal 2 in your Steam Library -> Properties -> Local Files -> Verify integrity of game cache)."

I've tried all of this and no luck. Can anyone help me with this?

1) Open Postal2.ini file with notepad and find
[Engine.Engine] RenderDevice=D3DDrv.D3DRenderDevice ;RenderDevice=Engine.NullRenderDevice ;RenderDevice=OpenGLDrv.OpenGLRenderDevice
2) Change it to
[Engine.Engine] ;RenderDevice=D3DDrv.D3DRenderDevice ;RenderDevice=Engine.NullRenderDevice RenderDevice=OpenGLDrv.OpenGLRenderDevice
3) Scroll down a little more and find something like this, if it's larger than your display resolution change it.
[WinDrv.WindowsClient] WindowedViewportX=1024 WindowedViewportY=768 FullscreenViewportX=1920 FullscreenViewportY=1080
4) Find StartupFullscreen=True and change True to False.
5) Save and try to run the game.

Can you describe what exactly happens? Does the game not start at all, or does it show the warning screen and then you get a window with a error message? If so please send the error message here.

Just after I posted I realized I hadn't posted the actual error message v.v

"An error has occurred. If you continually get the same error, try loading a different save file, submit a bug report, and/or check the Support Forums for assistance.

POSTAL 2 Build Apr 17 2023 17:34:38

OS: Windows XP 5.1 (Build: 2600)
CPU: GenuineIntel PentiumPro-class processor @ 3396 MHz with 1023MB RAM
Video: Radeon RX550/550 Series (1000)
Level: Startup.♥♥♥ - Untitled

Error setting display mode: CreateDevice failed (D3DERR_DRIVERINTERNALERROR). Try deleting your 'Postal2.ini' file and try again.

History: UD3DRenderDevice::UnSetRes <- CreateDevice <- UD3DRenderDevice::SetRes <- UWindowsViewport::TryRenderDevice <- UWindowsViewport::OpenWindow <- UGameEngine::Init <- InitEngine"

That's the error I get after the content warning. As I said before I've tried the suggested troubleshooting and had no luck. Thanks for your response! I'd really like to experience this game. Looks like a trip and a half!

Sorry, I forgot to get back to you. So have you tried deleting your 'Postal2.ini' file like the error message recommends to? If not please try doing it.

1) Click with right mouse button on POSTAL 2 in your steam library.
2) Properties > Local Files > Browse local files
3) Open System folder
4) Find and delete a Postal2.ini file.

Yeah, I tried all the solutions from the main troubleshooting thread pinned to the discussion board and still get the same message. Tried reinstalling as well.

That seems to have done it. I had a crash while playing with the same error but booted it back up no problem. Thanks! I was really looking forward to playing this!
