I take it that Hardware 3D + EAX is in fact unsupported because it causes a number of glitches. For one thing, some of the cutscene audio (like in the intro) is sped-up. For another, there seems to be an extremely overbearing echo effect that's present no matter where you are. The 3D positional sound actually does work really well, but it's a damn shame it comes with a host of bugs.
I've been wanting to play a bunch of older games with EAX but due to limitations and workarounds, I'm just going to get a computer with XP up and running and then I will see if these bugs occur.
I tried running Postal 2 the other day to notice that it has EAX but the strange thing is even though all I use is a USB-DAC for audio, it still lets me toggle hardware and EAX which doesn't seem right. I feared that this steam version might have just killed that portion for compatibility for everyone, but I will still do my own test in XP.
