Caribbean in a Nutshell
Hey guys, this quest comes right after leaving (and returning to) Martinique and I have to say it gave me some grief. Both difficulty and "how to" is a big step from the easy Martinique fedex quests. So here a few pointers in case anyone else gets stuck.

1. Lacroix in the Store will ask you to transport HUGE ammounts of powder and ammunition 2500+2500 to Port au Prince FORTRESS (if its not random) I had to drop most of other cargo to be able to leave port. Please make sure you repair your ship as you will be chased by both spanish and pirates - might be actually better to kill some weaker pirate or two to train your gunnery. Choosing to outrun everybody was frustrating and left me weak for future(final mission)

Also DO NOT SELL ALL YOUR AMMO TO MAKE ROOM FOR THE MISSION CARGO - or do not forget to restock prior leaving Port au Prince later - you will have a naval combat mission in the end!

2. Fortress commander sends you to the vicinity of PortoBello with cannons for a Frigate Warlike (there is a bug in desription once calling the ship "Militant" and once "Warlike" proly translation issue) but its "Warlike". Once you are close to PortoBello you should be able to fast travel to Mosquito Bay and from there also to the Warlike Frigate. Same as the Rum smuggling mission you will need to send a longboat to the Warlike, talk to the captain and then return to the sea.

PortoBello is south on the map very close to (north from) Panama in case you wonder.

3. Captain of Warlike sends you to investigate the fate of one spy sent to PortoBello and also to investigate a new spanish ship Alcantara and why its still waiting in the shipyard. Make landfall in the Mosquito Bay and go to PortoBello on Foot. It should be 2-3 jungle zones to get to PortoBello - if you walk more or get lost its very possible you arrive to Panama so check that.

Wait for night and enter PortoBello - you need to get to the Tavern and ask one of the drinking patrons about news. Entering the Tavern without alerting any guards isnt all that easy, its a building with two entrances opposite to the pier.
Alternatively you probably should enter PortoBello during night to avoid gate guards, move a bit into the town and "rest for some time" till its day. During daytime the guards in town will not get alerted! Enter the tavern and ask a drunk about news.

Next step is to ask somebody poor about the Alcantara - you have to do this during daytime and the person in question is the local beggar (on the street sitting NPC) I met him in front of the tavern. You will have to pay him 5000 pesos or mission fails. Also you will need to wait till 23:00 before he comes to the pier with the information - means sneaking from town again. (surprisingly guards did not react to me when I had my weapon unsheathed so i just did that and left town without alert)

It is not possible to save the spy himself I think - you can ask the Innkeeper about his fate though by asking about certain person (not sure if that was it as I had more quests and the name was different - sorry)

Move through the jungle to Mosquito bay - you will likely meet a patrol of 4 spanish soldiers hunting spies - no problem if you have your indian friend Boarder or even more Boarders. Return to the Warlike and inform the captain.

You should be able to tell him the spy is lost to France and that the Alcantara is waiting for gun powder which should be delivered by a Barque "Pueblo" from some eastern Town (Santa Cruz?) and that it will sail in three days whether the Barque arrives or not.

4. Your next and final mission is to intercept the Pueblo. And this gave me real grief.
- you should be repaired and with full sailor count which is not that easy seeing you are deep in spanish waters and you only have three days so you cant sail to restock!

Also here it will come in real handy if you have some better gunnery skills (I had 5 and it sucked)

Sail east from PortoBello along the coast and you will meet a (purple) ship which is the "Pueblo" barque - it is alone and you need to sink or board it. Please note that taking too long in combat might result in more spanish ships joining the battle (ships the like you dont wanna meet!)
A Barque has 46 sailors so plan accordingly before you board - I met some tough sailors onboard and then after reloading the game from where I took the mission the sailors were much weaker. Like 60 HP vs 90-130 HP
You need to survive two rounds of boarding combat and then defeat the captain in a 1v1.

- you can loot bodies (press 1) after each roud of boarding combat
- you should loot the captains cabin before leaving it - there are 4-5 loot spots there and his chest contains nice stuff for a beginning captain. This is not connected to the mission but as it was my first boarding it came as a surprise accidentaly finding out you can loot there!

(I had to reload 3 times after winning against Pueblo as twice other ships which joined the combat cought and killed me and once I sank my ship crashing into the sinking enemy omg)

Anyway you now need to return to Guadeloupe Storehouse for your reward. Mission Accomplished and time for some freeplay - visit the fat guy house for some drinking

I tried it talking with the prison commandant and couldn't do anything about it, but maybe it's possible after talking with the beggar?

However, if you try to ask the innkeeper about the spy, he will call the guards.

Awesome material, I suggest you make a guide of it.

It is not true the tavern keeper always calls guards. I asked about the spy and he answered something strange about wanting to throw her out of town naked - I then replied I was an admirer of the spy to not raise suspicion .. cant be sure if translation didnt botch it a bit :)

Anyway I returned to the prison and killed the guards and I didnt find the spy.

You can't save him(

I have read in a different topic that you can savescum the wind direction when leaving port. Maybe try to reload if wind blows north?

I didnt have any trouble going straight from Port au Prince to Portobello - felt quite fast but I didnt do a single stop and when attacked I escaped keeping the direction.

Did you know that you can sail on the tactic map and still advance on the global map? x8 speed, good wind, right direction, just don't forget to get on the global map and back every minute to update your location.

But the wind changes direction on the way there?

I did the sailing on the tactical map and popping up on global map once in a while trick and that worked. Thank you Joruba :)

You can jump between bays like this htt_p:/rghost.ru/7xbB9RnRZ.view. It has russian names, but all you need to do is jump the bays marked in green. So, you won't face any spains/pirates.

About indian officer, did you speak with this russian guy about robbery and indian?

Yes i speak with Fedey and he told me he catch some indian in his house who try to robber him and now this indian are in jail, i go to jail and speak with officer but he not allow me to speak with that indian prisoner, i try to go to his cell but guard stop me and if i keep move start attack me.

Spain and Pirates attack me event near colonies and fortes, they dont scare from nothing, with direct course to Portobello i reach south part of Jamaica and that is, i cant see way to make it to Portobello in 2 weeks, is impossible

I can't get the drunkards to talk about the spy, i arrived at the town, got to the tavern and i've talked over and over and they just don't give the info.

Should I keep talking until one feels like talking or should I advance time or go outside and then return to the tavern.

I'm really loss on how to get past this.

Nice step by step by the way.

does it make an quest log modification when you get it?
Lula Carvalho Feb 25, 2016 @ 7:10am
alright, thx. The real problem was between the chair and the computer, i was in panama city. Got to Portobello and things went smooth.

I can't even get away from the Hispaniola area because of a Spanish interceptor (sloop) hunting me. Its faster than me, so I can't outrun it and it is also a larger ship with a full crew. I can get away from it in tactical mode, but it is able to attack again immediately on world map. I don't seem to have a snowballs chance in hell. Any ideas?

Lure interceptor under fort.
Yeah, did that! It comes under fire, retreats to safe distance and just waits for me to go back on global map, so it can bother the hell out of me. Managed to damage it with a mine, but it kept on coming. Gave up on the mission and took some other odd jobs, where I got extremely lucky in a multi ship fight. .... Now I have a corvette, ho ho ho!
