How do I sail around??

I played pirates of the caribbean years ago, I remember it had a global map where you can easily sail around in I cant seem to find it here, does this game have the same map? would be odd not to have it since this is a newer version.

I just got the ship I found the time speed up but not the map to sail around, its driving me crazy.

Press Enter when on your ship and then the compass icon

You are trapped on the Island you started on until you aquire a Navigator for your ship. Lets call it the last quest before the game really starts. I'm about to resart again for the uptenth time and after 13 hours on the start out island I finally get it. By the way its best to watch the Youtube video's to get all the quest down correctly so you leave the island with enough gold to really start out and play. 80K is what I will leave with on this 4th run through.

I see a navigator was not a requirment back then if I recall.

Yes I did read a tutorial wiki which did mention a navigator at the end but the details were a bit vague I will try again when I have the time, it seems I have to start over too.
