Teochitlan?
Enchanted City?
Mummy Powder?
Ascold?
The Flying Dutchman?
La bella Isabella?
Blue Bird?
Independent national quest lines?
Completing the Cityof Abandoned Ships hurricane WITHOUT breaking your keyboard?
I can list several dozen others, some of which many dont even know existed in the code, because not everything was included in the original English release from the Russian conversion.
Everybody remembers Peter Blood starting quest, and most quit.
Some of these quest are $#@!ing LONG.
It took HUNDREDS of hours. Much longer than SDTEHO.
This game is a prequel to COAS, BEFORE the Admiral Capper and COAS was "established".
Additionally, there are significant additions in some areas such as weapons, magic, and other voodoo weirdness, but MUCH LESS flexibility in terms of long term gameplay.
You cannot "capture" cities and turn them them into your own fortress for example.
Starting statistics are FIXED.
There is no modification of character choices, etc, etc.
Historically, COAS is better.
Story wise, SDTEHO is better as far as interest.
Content wise SDTEHO recycled a TON what was in COAS in one manner or another, which most people will not catch, as they are new to the series.
Game mechanics are more realistic?
How?
Controls on this game remain the same cryptic and archaic nature since they have been since 2000 and the original Sea Dogs. Once you get used to them, its is not a big deal, but for modern gamers, most just want controller support and "big flashing arrows" to point their way to easy victory.
