UNLOCK THE PROGRAMS FILE YOU GODLESS-COMMIE BASTARDS!
Seriously—this game has massive potential but it is all manner of ♥♥♥♥♥♥-up. If you let us mod it, we will make a great game of this. Just look at what the modding community did for Pirates of the Caribbean. People are STILL playing that ancient-ass game exactly because of the community build mod. What the actual ♥♥♥♥? Why are these files encrypted? This is perhaps the oldest game engine still in existence for ♥♥♥♥’s sake. Stop being a bunch of pricks and unlock the ♥♥♥♥♥♥♥ file already.

Silly Flamingo! :D

Unfortunately, about the only place you can find PotC these days is on Ebay. I was trying to get another friend interested in it so we went looking.

Eventually the developers will decide they've done all they could with the game and give us access to the resources. I think they're looking at adding Steam Workshop capability before doing that, and that will be a Good Thing indeed.

I can't wait. I've already got a list of things I intend to mod... like adding direct sail between islands to avoid needing the World Map. I did it with PotC, I can do it with Sea Dogs.

And don't rag on the Russians. They do good work.

The last version of this game has some great mods. You should check out Age of Pirates 2: City of Abandoned Ships. There are a ton of bugs, but the moders from piratesahoy.net or .com, cannot remember which extension, has an incredible massive mod then a patch for that mod that adds a ton of ships, real and fictional from movies, as well as fixes a lot of the bugs from the game. That in addition to being able to modify the program file to change your character builds by using .txt programs like notepad makes for a really great experience out of the box.

I think we all know about the great mods of AoP2. It would be nice to mod THIS game though. It's a great game that just needs some tweaks.

Why write here when you can write to the devs directly?
That will be more effective.

Ok, Today we have some very, very good High Power Game Engines. Our computers are light years more capable than they were when these games came out. Yes, this game is recent but its based on the old tech engine. I WANT A NEW SAILING ADVENTURE, Based on the Golden Age of Sail, not just based in the Carribean but all up the American coast and South American coast and parts of Europe and Africa as well. Like Myers did in his first game. This should include good aventures on land and a very good Avatar interface like many of todays games have. I look at this game and the first thing i think of is WHY havent they made a new Sailing Adventure? Surely it would be a hit! Not a cheap game either. I want quality. And how about some co-op capability.

Any news on whether there will be Steam Workshop Mods?

I don't see any good reason why they would encrypt the files. Games that are more receptive and encurage mods do very well in the game market and last much longer despite age.

As long as they want to make money on DLC, they're not going to unlock the files for modding. And as long as the game is on Steam, the only way they'll enable modding is through the Workshop. Adding Workshop to a game takes a lot of time and effort, but once it's done, the game should have a longer lifespan. I doubt we'll be able to mod TEHO within the next 2 years, and probably another couple of years before the mods get really good.

You can already do some limited modding with TEHO. I've replaced the compass with a better one that I made, and I found a world map with the island regions marked. There may be others.

If you want a game that's been modded but is similar to TEHO, there are at least two: Age of Pirates 2: City of Abandoned Ships, and Pirates of the Caribbean. Of the two, COAS uses the more modern engine, while PotC has had a lot more time for the mods to mature, which means it has a lot more content and is more stable. Take your pick, depending on which one you can find.

I finally got around to installing COAS. From an hour's play, it appears to be TEHO with different content. If you want a game that can be modded, look at COAS.
