What do I do with a treasure chest?
I rescued a Damsel in the jungle and she had a treasure map for Cayman Island. So I sailed there via Hispaniola, encountered a couple of Spanish ships and captured them, sold them in Port au Prince. All in a day's work. Picked up some ebony at Santiago lighthouse for eventual sale in Jamaica.

Santiago lighthouse to Cayman was an easy sail: 15 nautical miles SSW, another 15 NM SbW (that's just to the west of south for the landlubbers), another 10 or so south and I could use sail-to. Landed at Esmeralda Bay and searched the very small island for the grotto.

Got the treasure. My share was 5 chests of doubloons, a bunch of loose gems and such, about 40 each of the common ones, and two treasure chests. If I hadn't had that Stayer amulet to let me carry any amount of weight (crafted from a recipe, lasts for 120 days) I'd have been rooted to the spot because everything was so heavy. My boarders could have helped carry stuff, I guess. I couldn't even take the stuff from the chest that's normally in the grotto.

But the question is, what do I do with the treasure chests? I can't equip them, don't have an option in the crafting menu for them. Do I sell the entire chest to the banker? I put one chest in the ship cabin chest and still couldn't equip the other. Any ideas?

Thanks.

I redid the grotto and gave the doubloon chests to one boarder, and the two treasure chests to each of the other two boarders.

I have one officer who can carry 182 weight, and he couldn't equip the chest either.

So bankers it is. The chests are worth about 100k each then?

Yeah, the banker in Beliz had that as a price. He couldn't buy it. So I sold him all my spare gems. Next time I'll buy all his doubloons first. :D

So, 86 + 86 + 75 plus change is 250,000 pesos. Not a bad haul. Is that typical for a treasure map?

Yes, it is a common profit from treasure chests. Even when you get a trash(low-tier weapons, island maps etc), it still can be sold for a good money.

Finally got both chests sold. 86,950 for the last one, and I didn't have to buy doubloons first. :D
