Game won't start - "Runtime Error!"
Hey everyone !

I have ran into a slight issues here. For some reason I can not launch the game. It worked for me before but after uninstalling it and installing it back it started giving me that "Microsoft Visual C++ Runtime Library error"

I'm trying to start it on my laptop. I have tried different updates but nothing helped. I also uninstalled and installed it again. I have validate all the files through steam and no were issues detected.

Figured out the issue. Something was wrong with my DirectX... -_-

hey, unless you don't remember since it's been so long, can you please tell me how you fixed your issue? have the same thing and nothing I tried worked and I don't really see a way to manually install DirectX so curious what you did

Hmmm, there was something wrong with d3d8.dll file. I am not sure if replaced it or just found a different version. Try to remove it from the file or change its name see if that helps alleviate the issue. I have also added "-force-d3d8" in the launch options. Don't remember which one actually helped. I will do some extra digging because I am using a new pc now and haven't played it for a while. I will get back to you if I find an exact solution that I utilized.

Oh there was one more thing. Try launching "ENGINE" directly from the game's folder. See if that helps. I have added a few mods to the games myself and just remembered that after "applying" my fix the only way I could start the game was from its folder.

You can try out TEHO mod (which is a d3d8.dll file)

However, you should try out installing DirectX and Microsoft Visual C++ first to see if the problem is corrupt Windows files.

DirectX: https://www.microsoft.com/en-us/download/details.aspx?id=35

(Here is a summary why you couldn't find a direct installer from the developers of DirectX: https://walbourn.github.io/not-so-direct-setup/)

I've tried all those things and still the same issue sadly, most progress I've made is instead of getting the error on start, it loads up the game, I play for about 5 minutes, then get the same error.

I felt like it would be tied to the visual c++ stuff, though I've tried repairing all of them, reinstalling, downloading all of them and installing fresh and nothing. DirectX also didn't do much, said it detected a newer version and didn't do anything. Wonder how much Windows 10 has a part to play. Though I tried compatibility mode. Tried the mod as well, still nothing. Launched from the Engine directly, still same result.

It's driving me nuts. Might have to wait for the supposed update with DX9 if it ever happens.

Maybe it's a hardware issue then.
