Also, you can hit enter and bring up the sail-to menu to fast travel to ships and shores when in range and allowed
Yeah I'm sailing into the wind. I have to because that's the only direction I can go to finish the quest. But into the wind or not, it shouldn't take this long with my time compression maxed out.
And I know about the fast travel menu, but for the rum running mission that doesn't work. you have to sail out manually at least for a while until the option comes up..
Before starting the game, you should choose the stats with power 10. You will have the highest weight limit and it will make your life easier.
Before starting any quest, talk to the governor, he will throw you into jail and take away everything you have. Save the game after you get out. Go to empty houses and open those chests. Just load game if the chest is empty or with craps. You should be able to get some weapons for cash. This will make game easier too.
For the Rum Quest. You should save the game before you board your lugger. Just load if the wind direction is not what you want. Or you can ask Hook for his mod that could change wind direction anytime. After you got the rums, dont forget the " sail to " option. it will bring you back to Lamentin Bay. Keep sailing along the edge when the land is on your left side. You should be able to go to Saint Pierre after couple minutes with the "Sail to" option. Then sail to your final destination Port of Le Francois
Thanks but none of that really helps with the issue at hand. How to beat the rum runner quest some time before the end of this presidential term.
I guess restarting is my only option. But at this point i'm not sure if it's worth even playing the game anymore. Seriously, how messed up does a game have to be in order to make itself unplayable based on wind direction? That something this basic could be screwed up doesn't bode well for the future.
we are just playing the pirate theme of the game and I don't see any similar game. The game itself is trash, a lot of bugs, unreasonable settings.
Wow, what a ringing endorsement. Anyway it seems like no matter how many times I load, the wind always ends up blowing against me, which at that points makes the entire game unplayable since I need to go in one direction.
That's what I'm doing. It hasn't worked yet, though atmittedly I've only tried a few times.
If you'd prefer to learn to sail, keep in mind that you can sail at an angle to the wind, in a zig-zag course, to get to a point upwind of where you are.
If the wind is not favorable when you go to your boat from the dock, go back to the dock and back to your boat and the wind will be different. You don't have to reload a saved game. And expect to be doing this a lot; I've had to get a new wind more than 10 times fairly often before starting a trip.
I prefer to have the wind blowing directly in my face when I first go to the boat during the rum quest. That way it's favorable for the entire rest of the trip. I've probably done this quest 20 times. AND I did it several times in another sailing simulator with various small sailboats. It's actually fun when you know what you're doing.
But then, this game isn't for everyone. Good luck.

I've played plenty of games where I've had to do sailing. Usually when you're not in combat, the game lets increase the time compression enough so that even sailing into the wind isn't that big of a deal.
But here even with time compression maxed out, you still go so slow that it's practically a death sentence. It makes the game virtually unplayable, which really is a problem when you run into missions where you have to go just one direction.
There is no absolute requirement to do the rum quest. I skipped it on my first play through because it looked a bit too fiddly at the time. You do get a cheap spyglass out of it though.
And now that you can get money for your ship as a loan from the abbot, you don't need to do any of the quests.
