But c'mon, don't you love to lose a couple million pesos just for the fun of it?
The last quest you have to storm Havana, which has been souped up with extra guns and garrison due to the fact they have a load of 5 - 6k slaves they are ready to distribute across the island stuffed into the fort. On top of that they have 2 ships of the line guarding the fort, each with 700 - 800 crew.
So all in all you have to defeat those 2 ships, and then kill the fort, that has 160 guns, and then storm the fort and town, which has around 2100 men. So by the time you are storming the fort you need to have at least that many crew left to do the fighting, or else you are going to have a bad time. The first time I went with 2 ships of the line and a heavy galleon... and failed miserably, since I only had like 1800 crew left when I attacked. So I head to load back and gather up an additional line ship and fill it with crew.
Then when you return with the slaves, dude steals them all and you get nothing, nothing but a lesson in trusting douchebag bankers who talk about how you are their partner and they would never ever betray you.
Well... the joke is on monsieur douche, as I am taking the slaves and selling them for 350 - 400 a head to a smuggler, which makes the quest actually worth like 3m pesos. Cha-ching. And I did capture one of those line ships they had defending Havana.
just as a side note, not returning the slaves gave me around 65000 bounty, and I was "good" relationship with france beforehand. So like 3 trips to Fahey at 600 doubloons a pop should about cover it. So costs you 180,000 pesos to screw the banker over, and you get about 2.5m pesos in slaves at 385 a pop, which is what they paid me on jamaica. I already had a few thousand slaves to sell is why I got 3.8m.
Another note is that in this quest line you get a permenant talisman that makes you immune to poison, and an excellent spyglass, the best in the game I think.
Nice job!
Sidenote: this spyglass is the second best, but the best one is a pain to get and isn't really worth it.
