Khajit (cat) / Argonians (lizard) been around since 1994 I think, wait till you see the bulls that stand on 2 feet and can use big hammers, dinosaurs, half human spiders, ghosts, goblins, ogres, imps, unicorns lol

Decent wiki for elder scrolls. Nearly everything backed up with references directly from many in game books and resources.
Honestly, if Oblivion really was their first TES game I could see how a person might do a double-take.
No idea why on earth someone would play Oblivion first these days though.
The setting is just straight generic fantasy and the lore is so weakly established and shallow they are just kinda... there at first. And I could see how they would feel out of place in this extremely generic western European fantasy setting. Like, okay for some reason the blacksmith in this idyllic medieval city is a huge bipedal lizard?
Any information about them is mostly handed out in books or by a couple of NPCs with 1 line of dialogue, Argonians get some racial lore in the faction quests... I don't think the khajiit get much attention? Even Leyawiin, wedged between the two provinces, is basically no different culturally than anywhere else. just it's racial composition.
