Blurry ingame with DirectX 9
I have returned to this game one year after I cleared it and I'm completely dissapointed with those semi-recent graphic updates.
I play in a laptop with an ATI mobility radeon graphics card, usually in 1366x768 (switching to 1280x720 doesn't fix the problem), using Windows 8 at the moment.

The problem is that, apart from the menu, the whole game looks totally blurry with DX9... no matter how much I change video settings.
I can't really play well using DX10/DX11 since the game runs on a much lower FPS rate than DX9.

Last year I was able to play without any flaw using DX9... it would give me nice FPS and nice looking graphics. Now it seems like this isn't possible anymore, and this issue is preventing me from buying Giana Sisters 2.

Why is this happening?

Edit: added some videos.

I'm having the same exact issues except I recently bought the game based on my experience with the demo. Demo ran smooth and looked great, apparently it's running on the old code. Actual game runs TERRIBLE and looks terrible. Apparently this is a problem lots of people are experiencing but it doesn't seem like it's ever going to be fixed.

Dunno how you come up with "lots" but to get things fixed you need to show/demonstrate the problem i.e. with screenshots or videos. Otherwise nobody will be able to help.

He came up with "lots" by searching on this steam hub. I found random people complaning about this problem on a few random posts but I thought it would be better to create a new one.

Also, I don't really think that screenshots are necessary at all. Ingame screen that looks blurry/fuzzy isn't something hard to imagine.

Actually it is hard to imagine when all you've ever seen is crystal clear HD game play.

Take a look at this album to see the differences between the new and old. I forgot to capture the framerate overlay in my screenshots but the demo was running at 50-60FPS, the current Steam version was running 30-40fps.

Top 3 are current Steam version, bottom 3 are demo version.

Dunno what's wrong with your system.
This is how the x-mas level actually looks like in the current Steam version of the game:

In one point i agree with you: the shadows inside the x-mas level are crap. But since this is a bonus level and this is the only level they do look this way it is not really an issue. Here's map 1-2 for comparison:

It isn't a map-related issue. Actually those screenshots aren't the best to show the blurryness, it's not the same looking at them than watching the fullscreen game.

To show a blurryness problem you need to illustrate it to others. This is done by either screenshots or videos so show us yours.

There you go, I recorded them. I really hope you can acknowledge this issue now...

Now i get what you mean! It's interesting that the game adds this blur with DX9. Out of interest i switched my own game back and forth between D9 and DX10/11 and can comfirm this. However my difference is not as huge as shown by your videos, prolly due to my 1920x1080 HD resolution; need to look very carefully to see them at all.

About the slower frame rate thing with DX10/11: nope, can't confirm that. Steady 60 FPS everywhere in any mode, beside the usual dips during load screens.

Oh, actually that's not a bug or anything related at all with Giana Sisters. It's just that DX10/11 can be troublesome running under 4-5+ years ago PCs.

Any fix for this guys? DX9 is clearly upscaled HD. Unfortunatly Nvidia 3D only works with dx9 so it sucks it looks so blurry!

I have the exact same problem too Shadowfury. It used to run great in directx 9 mode with super sharp textures. Now its all blurry and run much worse, it is if they have put some bad kind of fxaa over it by default which can´t be turned of. It looks terrible and have made me from play this otherwise fantastic game.

I mailed them about it long time ago and they told me to look in to it but I haven´t heared from them since. Really sad, I really love this game.

Same thing over here, very annoying.

Blur in DX9.

Slight stutters in DX10/11 even though the framerate is pegged 60fps@60Hz.

No way to fully enjoy this. Wasted money.

Found out how to fix it, but you'll need a third party app.

A long, long, very long time ago, the ATi/AMD driver control panel included a feature called 'Alternate Pixel Centers'. This feature hasn't been supported for ages, but the switch is still needed to fix this game and get rid of the blur in DX9. You can use ATi Tray Tools to force the game to use Alternate Pixel Centers. Game is super sharp once more! Unfortunately, the performance is so bad on my machine that I uninstalled it anyway and requested a refund (my system easily meets the recommended specs, but those aren't anywhere near enough to maintain a solid 60fps).

Specs:

Processor: AMD Phenom II x4 3800MHz

Videocard: AMD Radeon HD6950 2GB (840/1275MHz)
Motherboard: Asus M4A88T-M
Sound: Onboard VIA HD Audio
Operating System: Windows 7 Ultimate 64-bit
Display: Dell 2209WA
Input: Logitech G400s mouse (1000Hz), generic keyboard
