I'd just get the Overhaul which is a huge compilation of mods. Here's the list:
http://www.ornitocopter.net/mo_wiki/index.php?title=Credits#Included_Mods_.28In_alphabetical_order.29
Sorry about my dumb questions, I haven't really modded in at least seven years.
I'm not sure either but I do know that the overhaul is such an awesome improvement and I'm enjoying the game sooooo much that everything else would just be gravy and not worth the risk of compatibility or effort. Just my opinion though.
Tired of the odd/awkward/clunky way in how Morrowind levels the character? Tired of planning ahead of time in how to skill/train your character so that you can level the attributes in an optimal fashion? Well, wonder no more!
The GCD is here:

It's essentially a "Leveling Overhaul" that makes the entire thing kind of a background system that will smartly level accordingly to how your character focuses on skills... and stuff. Probably best to just read the description on the site yourself, but I have tried it and it is HUGE relief to instead wander around and explore the way I want without having to hassle with how the vanilla game handles the leveling system. And do not fret, this does not mean it takes away/limits in how crazy OP you can make your character, it's just a smarter/more streamlined set of algorithms. ^^
http://www.nexusmods.com/morrowind/mods/12737/? - Great little starter home, with fast traveling jewels. You don't have to use them if you don't want to. I like them better than the Teleportation Ring mods.
http://www.nexusmods.com/morrowind/mods/946/? - A long range boat travel mod. Allows you to go from any boat port, to any other boat port. No more having to leap-frog your way to another place.
http://www.nexusmods.com/morrowind/mods/36873/? - Better in game font, so it isn't as blurry.
http://www.nexusmods.com/morrowind/mods/5512/? - Ever joined the Legion, and hated that you had to switch out your armor, and weigh yourself down with them, just to talk to people? This fixes that.
This site discusses many mods that adjust the leveling system. I chose Madd Leveler because it worked for me and GCD didn't. It also discusses Starter Mods that change how and where the game starts.
The one section gives a list of Mod list sites but also has a tutorial section that discusses many areas. One link is for those that are beginners to using mods and programs that can be used to identify conflicts. Check it out.
That really is a shame that the GCD would freeze up the game. It worked perfectly fine for me so I can sadly not be of any help in why it have to be such a party-pooper for you. :C
From my personal experience Morrowind Overhaul. Tamriel Rebuild and Morrowind Comes Alive does not confflict with each other (better clothes/heads/bodies is already a part of Morrowind Overhaul). The only problem seems to be Morrowind Rebirth which does cause some errors but if you use MLOX tool (that shows you all errors and conflicts and follow the solutions it provided) you should be able to make it work smoothly. About the order I would say install Morrowind Overhaul first then Tamriel Rebuild then Morrowind Comes Alive and last Morrowind Rebirth (when you install Morrowind Rebirth you might have floating grass in Seyda Neen (the first town you're in once you'll leave the introduction bit. I have found solution for that just install New Seyda Neen mod) Also you will probably be getting doubling as well (that is two same NPC's standing next to each other which is probably caused by mods that add additional NPC's). To get rid of doubled NPC you'll need to use tool called Wrye Mash (but I don't know exacly how to fix that myself really) Also when you're trying to install new landmasses (like tamriel rebuild and you want to have same drawing distance everywhere) you'll have to regenerate distant land everytime you install them in MGSO options. Last about tamriel rebuild. So far there are three maps right now (each update gets new map). Even tough the newest update is called Map 3 Secred East it also includes Maps 1 and 2 so you don't have to install them separately. Right now all maps of Tamriel Rebuild are located in the east of Vvardenfell and they are not floating islands (actually all 3 maps released combine into 1 big island that is actually bigger that Vvardenfell itself.
TR will nearly triple the landmass of Morrowind. Although it is not fuller completed it will already adds much of mainland Morrowind to the gameworld with many NPCs and hours of new quests.

Do all these mods work in conjunction with one another?
