The Elder Scrolls III: Morrowind

Character/Run ideas?
I'm on my way to wrapping up my first playthrough. Was a lot of fun, albeit janky, but that's to be expected from a 2003 open-world RPG by Bethesda. My first playthrough was a spellsword Dunmer with questionable morality. Now I'm looking to play it again with a new character, but I'm looking for something very out there and niche. I've come to the discussions for ideas.

Off the top of my head, I'm thinking of doing an ice mage run inspired by the Snowgrave route from Deltarune chapter 2. To put it briefly if you're unaware: You corrupt your sweet innocent deer friend Noelle into being a cold (figuratively and literally) killer who hungers for power. It's a very uncomfortable experience akin to a creepypasta. It also results in a main character supposedly dying. Not to mention that starting this route is very obscure and specific. This idea came to me when I learned that you can actually kill Vivec before he hands you Wraithguard and still beat the main quest. Yeah they're not really all that similar, but Snowgrave is just what popped into my head when I read it.

Could try a Nord version of the 'Orc Shaman' build from Chapter 13.3? (Nords like Ice...)

If you don't mind mixing in Bound Armour spells and Absorb Health early, it's surprisingly hardy for a mage. Early Alteration and Illusion will need some work though. More details in the guide.

Basically:

Nord, Willpower/Endurance, Atronach. 30 Intelligence lol.

Majors: Mysticism (35), Destruction (35), Conjuration (35), Restoration (35), Athletics (30).
Minors: Alteration (20), Illusion (20), Alchemy (20), Medium Armour (25), Blunt Weapon (25).

Skills/favoured stats open to revision but I'd at least keep Atronach, otherwise your Magicka pool will be sh*te.

If you'd rather not go for Atronach sign because it's kinda janky to use effectively (overpowered, but definitely janky), then there's a generic 'Breton Apprentice' mage build as well in the guide which is simpler to play & manage.

Niche? Altmer Knight.

It's probably not for everyone but the most fun way of playing for me by far is an Argonian shaman/Khajiit Monk who uses no armor or weapons, (at most a stick with paralyze on hit to use as a tactical tool), has the atronach sign and never raises strength or endurance so that he always has to prevent getting in close combat. It turns the combat into a tactical game and makes it actually a very interesting part of the game as a result. Always needing to be creative to overcome challenges with a wide arsenal of spells and enchantments.

Perhaps a character inspired by the Fairy Tail anime and manga. Specifically, I'm thinking of Natsu Dragneel, a fire mage known for being powerful, yet incredibly reckless. In just his first appearance, he rescues a kidnapped girl and takes down a human-trafficking ring, but destroys half a town in the process. He also gets violently motion-sick when taking a vehicle, so you have a built-in roleplay reason for not taking fast-travel methods. It also works for the storyline of the game, as there's certain aspects of Natsu's past that are similar to the Nerevarine.

Mayhap you might consider returning to being a farmer OR..create a good guy/farmer character:steamthumbsup::steamhappy::steamthis:

I'm curious, how would that work? I'm not aware of any farming (as in agriculture) mechanics in this game. Unless you count wandering the wilderness picking plants to be "farming", but technically that's "foraging" since they're not your own crops.

One playthrough I chose a farm to live at and collected all friendly guars with a command spell to hang out in my garden and imagined really hard to be a guar farmer lol. But thats probably the closest you get to being one in Morrowind

Fair enough, that's a clever approach. But was that farm not owned by an NPC already? I thought that you weren't allowed to sleep in owned beds. Unless you... *ahem* "repossessed" the farm and "sent the owner away" ?

Haha, I def had to reaffirm to a local farmer that he was right not to trust outlanders to attain the farm

On the subject of farming or general peaceful pursuits, I did consider trying out a "pearl fisher" character who swims around harvesting pearls from the various oysters (or whatever they're called in this game) that you can find underwater, since pearls seem to be worth a decent amount of money for a low-level character. Do the pearls/oysters in this game respawn, or is there a finite amount around the map and once you've harvested them all then that's it?

Ah also a nice unique idea lol, Pearls seem to respawn in the same way other alchemy ingredients do

Ok that's good to know. I recon if I do go with such a character it'll have to be an Argonian, since they start with that useful water-breathing ability so you don't have to spend money on potions...

Would def work, Water breathing spell is also cheap and easy to cast for any character otherwise. But Argonians do have a nice swimming animation

A while ago I did a run where I played as a weak Khajiit slave named D´jango and the whole idea of the run was just to become a proficient fighter, return to the ascadian isles, free every slave you see and bring them together into a small army, then march back to Orvas Dren´s plantation and kill everyone inside.

It´s fun if a little easy. Having 10+ followers behind you makes any fight easy.
