The Elder Scrolls III: Morrowind

just started the game and enemies ignore summoned creatures
first time playing morrowind, made a mage character. picked conjuration as a major skill. problem is enemies completely ignore the summoned ghost and beeline me. and because i have to dodge the enemy and kite their attacks the ghost cant keep up and it cant hit anything as a result of the enemy moving outside its range.

is this a bug?

Not sure, never played a summoner character, but your summon may have to attack the enemy at least once to pick up 'aggro', and these debuffs ghosts spam until they run out of mana may not count as an attack.

I summoned an ancestral ghost in between me and the enemy on a narrow bridge and the bandit just completely ignored the ghost and went straight for me.

This won't work, you have to attack or get attacked first (with summon up), only then your summon will engage with enemy and get its attention.

The basic rule of aggro: Enemies will focus on their current target unless something else damages them "enough".

Ancestral Ghosts don't deal a lot of damage. Basically any other summon should be able to distract the enemy after landing their first hit.

♥♥♥♥♥♥ system, but you can use openmw or mcp to fix it. Overall im suggesting you to get mods at least for qols.

Nah it always made sense to me as part of the magical pact between summoner and the summoned creature. Nothing to fix there

Playing a summoner in Morrowind and expecting your summons too keep you alive is not a good idea.
The only way I use summoned creatures is when in a dungeon/ cave and place them in a doorway/ narrow passage. Then I only will use large Atronachs (Frost/Storm) or a Flame Atronach. Remember to be behind them.

So what good is Summoner? Conjured armour and weapons, all have built in enchantments and weigh 0.
Weapons have a plus 10 to whatever skill the weapon is i.e 10 to shortblade skill.

Command Creature and Command Humanoid. Especially good at long range and in stealth mode.

I guess this all may be why when people take Conjuration as a major they would go for Breton and Short Blade.

I am playing as an altmeri wizard lmao. absolutely have 0 combat skills checked as major or minor. only light armor. Combat is less than fun right now since i only have flame bite. hoping it will get better once i get better spells
Hi there! First, here’s a handy mage guide.

If you’re playing a summoner, you will need to either damage an enemy or be damaged by an enemy for the summon to engage in combat. A custom ‘call to arms’ spell with low magnitude & large area can help here (eg turn undead 1 pt in 50 pt for 1 sec on target).

This however won’t necessarily stop enemies from heading for you over a summon, so i would suggest:

- using short duration summons that are spellcasters with ‘solitary’ summons (eg Flame Atronach, Daedroth),

- using short duration summons that are melee with ‘groups’ of summons (eg Scamp, Dremora, Clannfear).

For more info on summons & lots of other mage related stuff, check out the guide!

See, this is a lot more interesting than just 'use a mod to cheat summon ai'

Thank you! I’ve never liked the idea of modding away issues, finding solutions to problems within the mechanics of the game is part of the fun…

I failed at English sentence construction a bit but hopefully it makes sense, lol.

You are complaining that the AI works? You obviously summoned that ghost, any intelligent enemy knows you are the real threat and the ghost will go when you die.
