the infamous Atk_RM012.mp3 error fix (finally)
SOLUTION
https://sourceforge.net/projects/mp3val/
download this app. run it, drag the Atk_RM012.mp3 over, click the gear icon, fixed. Play, no more issues

Scoured the net, steam, and countless other necro-threads still open (clogging the search engines) without successful answer.

The problem I realized after a few minutes, is old fashion, the mp3 is corrupted - either bad install, or just a bad file. This app will fix it. Actually, any apps that fix mp3's will work.

INFO: "D:\Morrowind\Data Files\Sound\Vo\r\m\Atk_RM012.mp3": 64 MPEG frames (MPEG 1 Layer III), no tags, CBR (<-- this is a "constant bitrate error")

Unlikely Solutions
The codec (k-lite) doesn't work (unless you have a very old system, even then it is suspect), and using an old app (from the /nightmare2013.brashendeavors.net) directshowfilterreset.zip - the website is no longer around - had to get the app from archives.org, specifically states that it is used with Windows XP (x64), If you used this method, and then download the MP3VAL app, the app will fix those reg errors as well.

Have fun, hope this helps someone stuck on this error.

nice going there, i've never thought it was due to a corrupted mp3, but never discarded it as a possibility either. what worked for me was using the combined community codec pack, which overwrites many codecs that used to be copy-righted with a version created by reverse engineering it, and ignores that error you found.

i do have one question tho: if one performs a Steam verify of game files integrity, wont that revert the file to a corrupted one?

not sure, I don't use the steam version to play. I always thought it odd that steam would put its fingers in the .exe to put their stamp on it. So switched to retail.

However, that too should answer your question - apparently depending on a mod, that particular file is corrupt in all versions.

I also did not want to use codecs to fix one file. Since the "age-of-codecs" went out with windows xp. these days, you can just fix the mp3 :-). If it was a codec issue, all the mp3's of the game would not play. This was an issue of just one file :-)

Glad it worked our!
