Can y'all stop comparing this game to a single Wario thing?
They're not even in the same ballpark.
if you stop at " they're both platformers and collect-a-thons then...yeah.
this game is very technical and rwquires you to move at lightning speeds.

literally every single wario game has you moving at snails pace, slowly and methodically plumbing the depths of levels in search for treasure.
The 3d Wario World added questionable physics and terrible boss battles.

before you all freak the heck out, i never said this game is bad.
i said its not a dang thing liek Wario.
You don't even know Wario is Italian or not, either. there's literally not a single connecting thread.
Pizza Tower is its own thing ( memes and easter egg references in the game aside )

Pizza Tower falls in an awkward spot where its clearly Wario influenced in more than a few ways but also only people who never played Wario Land would call it "Wario Land 4.5"

I think people who just call it "Wario + Sonic" might not be 100% in the right either but I have yet to see someone find a better way to explain Pizza Tower's unique gameplay without dropping a paragraph or a long sentence at all. Usually its good to have some tagline to latch on to and "Wario + Sonic" is the best possible one.

The main reason as to why people compare Pizza Tower to Wario Land its because in the Steam Store, the brief description of the game is said to be inspired by the Wario Land series, so people are gonna make comparisons thanks to that.

Also, the earlier versions of the game were much closer to Wario, but with time this game grew up into its own thing, honestly I feel its more of a mix Of Jazz Jackrabbit + Sonic in terms of speed and level design.

Its compared to WL4 because PTG cited it as a direct design inspiration for the transformations, the toppins, the escape sequence, and the core movement focusing on the R-dash.
Unlike all of the portable Wario games, PT isn't constrained in how much stuff can be on screen at once, so larger and open stages are where the game gravitated towards when the momentum and movement mechanics had become the primary focus.
Its Wario but fast.

…You seem upset.

Also, speaking of comparisons, I don't like Anton Blast;
It just makes me miss Wario even more cause it's everything I want a new Wario Land game to be, and it's given to some Storebrand Wario.
(I'm Envious.)

What do you mean you don't like playing with your balls?

I mean, it's literally inspired by Wario games. But before I knew that, I thought it was inspired by Jazz Jackrabbit lol

IK Ferry mentioned it already but there is a big Jazz influence here that goes over most people's heads. Its 100% intentional by the developer.

Honestly, after I'm done with this game,
I might wanna give some loving to Jazz Jackrabbit. It's a series I've been leaving on the backburner for awhile. I especially hear good things about 2.
But I HAVE to go to GoOoOoOoOoOoOoOoOoOG-
To get those games, and I don't wanna create an account JUST for 3 games. Seems wasteful.

its just wario 4 on crack. its specifically like wario 4 but with more flowing gameplay, its like wario 4 and sonic. theres too many similaritys with how it specifically is like wario 4 as a platformer to not say it isnt like wario 4
peacetohippies Mar 20, 2023 @ 7:07pm
It's the single biggest influence here.

Imagine making a thread to complain about a comparison to a game that is literally cited as an inspiration in this game's store page.

I have no idea why you're even being so mad about this. The inspiration is clearly there, if you play the game and you've played the old Wario games then you can very clearly see where the inspiration comes from. And even if that wasn't the case... Why does this bother you so much that you have to go out of your way to make a thread to complain about this?

It’s literally the speed booster and shine spark from Metroid turned into an entire game by itself. No one has really noticed this yet for some reason.

The inspiration is pretty clear, but its more surface level and nods rather than a full blown Wario land experience. Course when people say Wario land its mostly just 4 and even then it doesn't hit those slow paced notes like that one.

Its nice it took a different direction than making a full blow indie Wario like Anton is doing atm.

Personally think it stands on its own rather than just "fast wario" considering how the Wario land series tends to shift a lot, but can understand how people can see it as such.
