Linux build so that TASes are possible?
A Linux[en.wikipedia.org] build in general would be nice, though I think the general public either doesn't know abojt, doesn't care about, or hates Linux so I see why this has not been done.

But this game has incredible TASing[en.wikipedia.org] potential, and order to tap into this, we either need a Linux build or a console port. TASing a Windows program is practically impossible based on my researching; there's some program from the windows xp era that does it and supports 20, 32-bit only games, and there's AutoHotKey. The most complete TASing software is only on Linux, so practically TASing the game is not possible. TASing a Linux program is not only possible, the best and most used program for TASing PC games - libTAS - only has a Linux port.

Notice how I've been saying Linux build, not Linux port. Since Linux is an OS just like Windows, Game Maker just lets you export to Linux provided you have the license that gives you the option. There should be no extra work (unless you don't have the Game Maker Indie subscription or above) in doing this.

What about running the game under Proton? Does libTAS work with Proton?

There are several open issues on libTAS's GitHub about Proton/Wine. Support for it is far from complete, let alone viable, and given that libTAS is an open source, unfunded project, it could take years for wine/proton to be compatible.

Corrected my post; libTAS could also be ported to Windows, it's not that it's impossible to write such a program for Windows (source: a friend who does low level Windows programming and modding PC games).

It's just that the people working on libTAS have not tried to port it to Windows.
I still think this should be considered because porting libTAS to Windows is much, much more difficult then the developer just hitting the "export to Linux" button in GameMaker.

I was amazed when I first saw the TAS for Celeste being done by this tool. I could only imagine what would happen if I saw one for this game. A Linux build has gotta happen.

Well damn.

The latest post just said a Linux build will not be happening any time soon, which means that TASing the game will require either porting libTAS to windows or using the weird setup with AHK.

It was worth an ask, I guess.

Honestly I interpreted the "you-know-where" part as a switch port, because y'know it's another portable device. idk

I interpreted "no linux port" after seeing that the game was still windows only and needed proton to work on steam deck. that interpretation is also fair
