Regular and immersive
Hi I am a new player to this game. I usually play the sniper elite series, and have played through several times, and was looking for something different, and just recently seen this series. I tried regular mode at the start and did not really understand the gear score, but I liked that I could find better armor and equip it and finding weapons that were different colors in the world, I guess meaning better weapons, then I watched some you tube videos and they seemed to say immersive was the way to play, so I switched to immersive, now I am wondering, in immersive mode I do not see any options for armor upgrades, so how does armor work in immersive mode. Do I just automatically wear better gear when I find it, like I have been finding pants boots gloves, but I cannot find them in inventory. I know In immersive mode my weapons can be upgraded, and I can find or purchase blueprints for new weapons. I am enjoying the game, just a little confused on how weapons and armor works between the two modes.

immersive is just hard mode, so nothing immersive on it, and regular is the base experience.

I've played through Act 1 on the normal mode but with the Gear Score turned off. OP, have you ever played Borderlands, Tom Clancy's The Division (1 or 2) or even a game like Diablo? Because the Gear Score is basically just like those: the better the gear you have equipped the higher your gear score. And the higher the gear score the more powerful the enemies you encounter. The colors of the gear are your standard White > Blue > Purple > Gold (IIRC) for quality.

To answer your question about Immersive Mode and armor there's no armor in Immersive Mode. All clothing is cosmetic. To access gloves and boots and shirts you need to navigate to the Change Appearance tab in the gear menu. Also, speaking about gear, in Immersive Mode/No Gear Score guns still have stats but they're not really important. Because any gun will kill an enemy if it's a head shot.

The whole idea with the gear score is to make the game feel more like a standard MMO Looter-Shooter like the games I described. Immersive Mode, or just turning off the gear score, makes the game feel more like a standard single-player tactical shooter. What I like best about turning off the gear score is enemies aren't bullet sponges. On the other hand, when I play with my son we turn it on because he likes the sense of progression it provides and he likes the idea of looting. Gear Score off is also cool because you can swoop into an area, complete the objective in full stealth and sneak out. You have little to no reason to loot every box in a given area since all the guns are basically the same.
Thank You Jeff, I have not played division one or two, but division 2 is on my wish list, as well as wildlands, and never played borderlands. I like playing solo stealth sniping, and after reading your post I will be staying with immersive mode. I like the idea of not looting all crates, because, I do prefer to sneak in do my thing and leave, but I also like gathering intel. A question on crates though, do some of them contain cash, (think it's called skell coins), and some weapons, or do you acquire cash only through jobs.

What's really great about the game is that you can truly customize it to your liking. For example, the standard Immersive settings allow you to carry a limited amount of healing items but I decided to up it a little bit so I can carry a little bit more. Another example of this customization is that in regular Immersive mode you need to open your map to see your objectives; since I usually track the progress of my class rank I set up the game so that when I press Tab it puts my objectives on the screen and when I press it again it hides them. And I also like to have the mini-map set to Small which just makes it a little compass in the corner. I don't really use the compass but it's nice to have there.

These aren't game changing settings but I love that I can customize it to my hearts content on the fly and if I don't like something I can change it and change it back whenever I want.
