First thing would be to go into the "Ghost Experience Parameters" button from the main menu - if you're lost and dunno what to do, can toggle the game to "guided" mode and it will shepherd you through the story linearly.
The alternative is the sandbox mode where you need to explore to find clues and mission-giving NPCs who'll provide you with tasks to do.
When you load into the game, the first bit is pretty linear until you get to a giant cave community called "Erehwon" which is your main base of operations. That's where you can shop, go to the bivouac fire pit in the middle to swap classes or change your load out, rest to get buffs, etc.
A helicopter spawns outside the main entrance of Erehwon that you can use to quickly travel to the different regions of the Auroa archepelago which is where you'll find the various mission objectives.
Once you've walked around Erewhon and talked to everyone, you unlock AI squadmates you can customise and play with - go to the lobby screen and tick the Ghost Recon teammates box to activate Fury, Fixit, and Vasili.
Walking around whilst crouched (ctrl key by default) will let you move more stealthily (enemy will need to be closer to you in order for them to detect you); holding down the C key will make you prone which is even stealthier. If you double-tap space whilst prone (if you are on snow / sand / mud) will be maximum stealthy.
So if you're struggling in combat, you can choose to avoid a lot of it.
Right click should "aim" your weapon(s). Whilst aimed a quick press of your left Alt key should toggle ironsight and third-person view. You are more accurate with your shots when aimed.
If you aren't aiming, left-alt opens up your inventory wheel. You can assign different equipment to that wheel by going to your loadout menu. Some stuff you can learn to craft, some stuff you can buy, some you'll just find lying around the world.
If you've "detected" a few enemies (look at them whilst "aiming"; use X to fly your recon drone and look at them) you'll have generated icons above their heads. Spotting enemies like this gives you XP. Killing them also gives additional XP.
If you have gotten enough XP you will have levelled up a few times. Levelling up gives you "skill points".
Go to the skill points menu and you can unlock "classes" (different specialisations). Unlock the one that most interests you first, then click-and-drag that screen downwards so you can see the "perk" tree above the classes.
Unlock suitable perks to improve the class you picked.
That should be enough to get you started on the game.
