So I got the basic version, my friend has Ultimate version, how far can we play Co-op?

So far been playing coop, just me and him, good fun slowly doing the main story and running about exploring. Will it get to a point he starts a certain mission and I just don;t get the option to join? Do I simply need the Year One Pass to be able to play alongside him or does Ultimate have even more stuff?

I could be wrong but as far as I understand you will be able to go through all available content in ultimete version at least as long as your friend hosts the game. Most likely you will not have access to weapon blueprints from the dlc, but I'm not sure
