I buy this game on steam, run it, and it requires a CD key. Where is it? Are you kidding me? The year is 2024, what's a CD key?

A CD key essentially is exactly what it sounds like. It is a key to a physical CD copy of the game. Only a few games require this anymore as this is a dying method. When digital gaming first became a thing, a lot of them required a CD key to be linked to so that if you lost the rights or couldn't launch the game normally, you could do so via a CD key. However, nowadays that method is all but dead as digital gaming is now the way of the future. Only a few games still require this. I'm honestly no too sure why they still do this as I thought it was already dead. It turns out, some of them still do it for security reasons. Other than that, I'm not sure why'd they still be doing this. Long story short though, it's mainly just to give you another way of accessing a game.

I see on reddit that others solved this by getting a refund and buying under a different account.
OTOH, my buddies and I never experienced this. Very weird.

dude you need to stop telling people to refund the game just because you didn't have the commonsense to find the cd key you purchased and that's sitting in steam lol its always funny when ignorant clowns act so confident despite being incredibly wrong

Apparently I don't have the common sense to find the CD Key either. I bought in Dec 2023 and I don't see it anywhere. The closest I have is a DLC called "Ghost Recon Breakpoint Ubisoft Activation". I don't have the O.P.'s issue, just wondering where you find it.

if the game has a CD key its under the "manage" tab when you right click on the game. If its not there then you just need to close out or skip the cd key prompt

did you really delete your comment just to come back and say the same thing? Just because you couldn't take the effort to click the mouse a couple extra times, does not mean the game doesn't work on steam it just means YOU could not get it to work on steam.Again issue is between computer and chair.

This a Ubisoft game. If you buy it on Steam, you will still need a Ubisoft account and have your accounts linked.

it asked me for a CD key when i started it

i just restarted ubi and steam, it then "bound" the game to my ubisoft account, completely disregarding the aforementioned asked for CD key.
