Worth playing in 2024 solo?
When this came out it was not well received. Personally, I didn't like the looter shooter style of the gameplay it was edging toward and it was more run and gun from what I recall.

I've heard the game has totally changed since then and is actually pretty good now? Apparently they've done away with the looter shooter aspect and you can play the game without "RPG mechanics" i.e. weapons and armour that have levels associated with them. If you pick one gun now it'll be just as effective at end game; it really depends on your preference.

Is it worth playing, have the changes made a big difference? Would someone playing this solo have a good time and is the stealth option rewarding/viable?

Back in time, I played it mostly solo. Only a few bosses (two or three, I barely remember) I had to co-op with random teams. Like the secret boss that uses camouflage in the jungle. But I completed it 100% achievements by 99.99% being lonely wolf.
I agree with what is said, it has improved a lot from what it was when it was released. I wish it had achievements here, I got them all on xbox.

just a little reminder.
Ubisoft can take the game away from your hands if they want, like they did with The Crew. so if you get it, be sure to finish it completely.

It reads like you own it, played before, so why not play it and decide for yourself?
I play it solo a LOT and have a pile of fun in conquest and story modes. There are a some scenarios that require stealth and yes it's rewarding.. IMHO. As noted above, you can play it any way you want it.. (sounds like a song) ;)
Oh, and BTW, guns and armour still level up as you progress. Is it onerous RPG crap, no it's almost automatic.

for me its a chill, fun nd amazing game, whenever I dont have anything to play, I come back to this game, since I play couple side missions not entirely main missions, saving them for last, so its like open - world type of a game, clearing out base by base, just leveling up the gear xp , weapons n armor stuff, "REGULAR" mode = level of gear / xp / armor or watever matters, so if ur gona be on high level, its easy for u to take out enemies or drones or babes, there's couple missions nd areas u hve to be above 150+ gear level or 200+ .. nd there's another mode called "IMMERSIVE" something, that I never tried it but its not typical gear level type of gameplay but more realistic u can say..

solo is good time, and if u co-op with friends for those missions or gameplay then its more fun too, gather 4 friends nd co-op missions / mostly multiplayer mode / raider stuff is just mostly hackers in their i guess ..

everything about the game is awesome besides the AI and the story.
Definitely worth it solo, and stealth is viable in most of the content except for maybe the toughest of areas or Conquest mode (the last "expansion" that added tougher enemies/layouts and missions in a new campaign that takes place on the same map).

Back when the game first released it had a lively community and I played with other guys clearing Golem Island and stuff like that, but for the last 4 years since I've played completely solo and enjoyed it. Like Wildlands, having a team that doesn't share your playstyle, difficulty, or skill level actually ruins the experience so sometimes solo is better.

I played as a bit of a "Cybersoldier 2.0" using crazy tech to get the advantage over enemies with loot active until the AI teammates and immersive mode were added. Now I do more of the jungle commando thing trying to stealth until spotted and let the AI allies take the lead while I command from the rear and stick close when we're engaged in combat. They can be pretty good as long as you don't get carried away with how much you expect of them so it doesn't feel like a lonely or unfair experience.

I decided against it.

I reinstalled Wildlands and realised why I never got around to beating it. I don't think this is for me.

Yeah, it appeals to a fairly niche community. If you don't enjoy the challenge of conquering outpost after outpost that get increasingly difficult and elaborate until you've swept them all, it wouldn't be fun.

Playing "dress up" and playing out a spec-ops fantasy is what keeps most people glued to the series.

Quit fearmongering. ANY game publisher or host (including Steam) can take your games, not just UBI.

Yes, play the game. It's $12, basic or $24 for Ultimate now.
What you mentioned is 'gear level', where weapons and armor progress as you level up.
In 'gear level' you can carry every weapon you find and switch anytime, even mid battle.
But they added, 'immersive' mode where weapons stats don't change as you progress.
In 'immersive' mode, you can carry only two weapons, and a handgun. You can switch your current weapon with one you find on a dead enemy or change weapons only at bivouacs.
Difficulty levels are customizable to play as Rookie, where you are nearly unkillable, or as hard as Elite mode, where it's one shot, you're dead.
There are also 5 classe each with its own set of challenges.
