Solution to Controller Issues

I just bought this game and started having issues with my Xbox controller randomly becoming unresponsive or button layout being randomly switched.

Solution: I turned on Steam Input under the properties tab of the game. Steam library, right click on game, properties, controller, enable Steam Input.

People use controllers for games even on pc because they're more ergonomic. You don't need to stretch your fingers into weird positions to hit buttons on a keyboard that was never intended for gaming. You also get variable inputs for stuff like vehicle speed and walk speed.

While people can be very fast and precise with a mouse due to daily practise, a keyboard sucks for most things other than typing. That's why they're not the default interface for driving a real car or flying a plane. (or almost anything in the real world other than typing)

Well, if that's the case then don't use a Mouse either. That's technically a Controller. The very first Video Game had a Controller and it's meant to play a Game easier, but I know that might be hard to understand too.

ok sorry for the minor necro on this. Apparently the issue can arise when using a bluetooth controller. Plugging it in will lock the controls to those you have set. For me I have my old wired controller plugged in sitting on my case out of the way, while I use the bluetooth one. Seems to work after 10 minutes, it used to be constant

Happens the same with wired controller......it changes the configuration randomly, I don't know why!

I have the game directly from Uplay and I use a controller for driving because M&KB for driving is just stupid. Anyway, I kept having nothing but issues with that because every time I pressed the thumb stick to look backwards or the A button to use the handbrake a virtual keyboard popped up in Windows and dumped me from the game. I kept thinking that maybe the game didn't support both M&KB and Controller inputs at the same time; like I had to commit to one or the other when I launched the game. I just had to completely shut Steam down and now it works just fine.
