Breakpoint improved upon many elements that wildlands was lacking especially gameplay-wise, but they also added some challenges that didn't appeal to everyone like enemy drones.
Some people love to focus on the differences between both games but in my opinion they are much more similar than not, so if you enjoyed Wildlands and wanted more try Breakpoint for yourself.
Some stuff i do prefer in Breakpoint is the injury\healing system, weapons and outfit customization, along with more refined gameplay like sneaking and gunplay. But i def prefer the UI, Map and World/Story more in Wildlands.
Currently playing through Wildlands in COOP with a friend, and realised how frustrating the AI\Enemy Spawns can be in the game, i reinstalled Breakpoint along with it and im having a much more refined experience in Breakpoint. Im not saying Wildlands aged badly, its still a fun game, but i think id rather play Breakpoint from a pure gameplay standpoint, if i had to pick one of the two.
As much as I enjoyed wildlands one of its weaknesses for me was exactly the lack of story, you enter a new region, they drop you a video of the region boss and you go after them.
Your statement would make more sense if you said "I don't care about story and just wanted to kill tangos", then I would agree, because for sure Wildlands campaign is way more straightforward as your goal is clear from start to end, take down El Sueno, but Ironically even that fails.
Both games have their pros and cons. Wildlands without question has a far better and more diverse map. The map in Breakpoint is pretty bland. A lot of the provinces look and feel the same. In Wildlands different provinces feel like an entirely different map. The storyline of Wildlands in better IMO.
However Breakpoint has a better feel in terms of movement and shooting. I don't know how the explain this, but Breakpoint to me has a better feel in terms of player/character scale. I like the daily side missions offered in Breakpoint (Kill X commander, extract hostage, destroy equipment etc.) I also like the level of customization for the world settings in Breakpoint. One thing that does really bother in Breakpoint for some reason is the lack of soundeffects when using the drone and binoculars. In wildlands the drone had various sound effects when scanning and identifying targets. Wildlands only has the zoom in/out sound effect on drones and in binoculars there are not sound effects at all when using them. Those little sound effects do make a difference for me at least.
The drones present in the open world in Breakpoint completely ruin the open world experience and the ability to complete some missions undetected. Even with disabling the drones to limited in the world settings, they are still present in some bases and missions. One base I just came across had 4x drones in the base. Which is close to impossible to clear out without alerting the entire base.
Wildlands still looks great, but there are some graphics improvments in Breakpoint, like the foliage looks cleaner and more detailed.
Overall. They both have their pros and cons. I do enjoy playing Breakpoint, especially with mods, but Wildlands open world map is just elite.
If Wildlands was remastered with Breakpoints core character movement and mechanics, Wildlands would be close to perfect. Or if there was a mod to import the Wildlands map into Breakpoint that would go crazy.
I made up my mind, so no need to go further unless you do for others with the same question.
The reason I asked is because many reviews were saying "I prefer wildlands" and I was worried about wasting money on another Just Cause 4, however I understand this is not the case here.
Breakpoint is just different, not worse than Wildlands. What's better is a matter of opinion and both are enjoyable. At least this is my take from the comments.
I will try Breakpoint.
Breakpoint has some systems in place to make it -much- more immersive which I really like but the new mechanical enemies both look dumb and a bit too futuristic for me, and also are just not fun to deal with. If they took all the systems of Breakpoint and just. Put it in the world of Wildlands it would actually be amazing.
imo that also ruined The Division 2.
it has more content and stuff to do.
the robots are a fresh experience imo.
class system is also nice.
more weapons.
it has a gearscore system that you can turn on and off.
if you get the ultimate edition for 20 or 30 bucks on third party websites and you enjoyed wildlands, than you will love it 100 percent.
