How to start with DX11
Due to some crashes here and there I am planning to play with DX11 but everytime its launching with Vulkan. Only way I can run in DX11 is from steam library. But is there any way to play with DX11 from shortcut direct? Steam never asks what API to start with if i select launch option ask everytime or start with dx11 also no response it will run with vulkan no matter what. Double clicking GRB.exe directly also launches Vulkan.

Right click on the game, properties... , and on launch options you can select between:
"Ask when the game starts"
"Vulkan"
"DX11"

Not working like these..any option out of 3 if i select it will launch in vulkan only...only if i click play from steam library it will run in that mode. I am looking for a way to run in dx11 without opening steam library..from directly a shortcut

If you plan to run directly from the shortcut you have to create a shortcut for the correct .exe, one of them runs the game with dx11 and the other runs the game with vulkan.

Yes there are 2 exe file.. GRB.exe(for directX) and GRB_vulkan.exe . Sadly whatever i run it runs in vulkan only:(

You could try creating a steam shortcut as well, right click on the game, manage, add desktop shortcut.

tried it. no help. Only thing i managed is deleting grb_vulkan.exe and renaming grb.exe(for dx11) to grb_vulkan. It launches with dx11.

right click the game in your steam library, Go to properties and in general under launch options there should be a drop box with ask when starting game switch it to DX11.

This is what I had to do in order to force Direct X. I don't know if this will help you or not, as I run the game on a nVidia card and with Ubisoft Connect (but I do launch the game using Steam/ must be signed in to Ubi Connect first)

Open nVidia Control Panel

Select Manage 3D Settings (from the list of options along the left side of the window, it's the second option down, from the top)

Look to the right of those options now, in the main body of the window. At the top of said window, it should read, in bold: Manage 3D Settings

Look below that and click the PROGRAM SETTINGS tab, to the right of the Global Settings tab

Look below that and locate option # 1, which should read: 1.Select a program to customize: .

Click the drop-down box (or arrow) below option #1. This is where you can specify/ force your card to run certain features using the GPU drivers (these will override any game/ in-game settings)

Locate the following from within that drop-down list: Tom Clancy's Ghost Recon Breakpoint (grb.exe). Click on (grb.exe)

Now that TCGRB(grb.exe) is selected and populated in the selection box, look for option # 2 now

Scroll that list of options all the way to the bottom, you are looking for the following: Vulkan/OpenGL present method

It is likely(?) set to AUTO. Click the word AUTO and then click once on the following option: Prefer layered on DXGI Swapchain

I then did the exact same change for the TCGRB (grb_vulkan.exe), in the event the game would try and shove Vulkan down my PC's throat

Now double check your launch options (right click GRB from within your library and select properties) from Steam to ensure the Launch Option reads: Play Ghost Recon Breakpoint - DX11

I then launch Ubisoft Connect and click the three blue bars (icon for options) in the upper left of the window, which is to the left of the words NEWS and GAMES

Select SETTINGS from the list

You should be on the GENERAL option, within SETTINGS

Look to the right and locate: Enable in-game overlay for supported games

Remove that check mark (also have the Steam in-game overlay disabled as well/ don't remember where the option to disable that is, but a quick Internet search should show you how)

Launch game from Steam library (green PLAY icon)

Maybe that will help/ work for you?

I'm running a mostly modern hardware with a 3090 and this is...

1) The only way I can successfully and consistently run DX11 over Vulkan...and...

2) Have the game run consistently WITHOUT random/ intermittent crashes.

The moment I deviate from any of the settings above, the game will either (A) run Vulkan, and/ or (B) crash to desktop

Good luck and again, I hope this helps in some way
