It's just a hack to replace the vulkan API with the dx11 version which runs poorly. How hard is this to fix, Ubisoft should step up and patch.
I haven't tried it, but if you don't like the steam version, you can remove it from here and install it directly from uplay. What is the difference?
I have just played for about an hour on also a 4080 but Windows 10 and didn't crash once.
I remember crashing on Vulkan on my 2080 Super and it was due to Vulkan loving to claim your VRAM and crash when it's going over budget.
At max settings with 4k you may go over 16 GB with Vulkan and this game. * I play at 1440p
Ryzen 5, AMD 6800XT, Win11
Check you have a big power supply.
