Scammer Devs want you to think this game just came out
Store page says huge sale on this $60 retail game, that "just came out TODAY" release date: 1/23/2023

I was like wow, that's an interesting marketing campaign, like $10 for a $60 brand new game. I had to google to find out this ♥♥♥♥ is like 4 years old??? Why are they allowed to change the release date???

Ubisoft didn't give enough of a ♥♥♥♥ to put the game's actual release date on the store page so Steam defaulted to when it released here.
Yeah it's a new trend, saw that a few times already with games coming from ubisoft especially. Pure scum. Asscreed valhalla was apparently released on the 6 Dec 2022 lmao

Yeah ive wanted year 1 pass for yup 1 year and never bought it cuz it cost just as much as ultimate edition and i saw it yesterday all my friends bought it instantly.

So yeah we fell for the marketing campaign but i dont care ive sunk enough hours to make it worth spending a little more money on it and play for another 150 hours.

I think that release date is based off on launch on steam cause older games that were released on CD disc's back in 1998-2000s also got re-released on steam but had a release date of 2017.

If varies from game to game, publisher to publisher. Some retro publishers have actually put accurate dates. Example: https://store.steampowered.com/app/1443430/
It's all up to the publisher to be upfront and accurate, and Ubisoft would rather use the tired "it did just release... on Steam!" ploy. This is nothing new for them.

Well to be honest it's not exactly an obscure indie game and the massive discount should ring a bell.

That is the Steam release date and it is accurate since the game was made available on Steam on the date of January 23, 2023. Before the game was for purchase on Steam, seeing January 23, 2023 as the release date made sense.

There are other threads concerning the other Ubisoft titles making their way to the Steam platform including The Division 2, Watch Dogs: Legion, and Assassin's Creed Valhalla accusing them of scamming also.

for 14 years there is only the real release date shown on steam and now they changed to gain more money. this makes no sense then write -> on steam since: *********
but this is just a scam

That's just like Steam works with "new" (for it, Steam) releases plus there's no reason for Ubi to pass up on free advertising. Many people wouldn't even know this game - which they didn't buy on uPlay (aka Ubi Connect) or EGS, because they buy \ want stuff only on Steam.

Devs aren't "scamming" anybody, you're just immature and well, not as bright as you think.

No reason to get so angry about it, cheers.

I'm not too worked up about it. Just wanted to point out this anti-consumer practice that the company is doing. Of course I know why they do it. Whether or not Steam has an incentive to let them?... I don't know. It may drive a small amount more sales to steam if things are "newer", but I think there's value in transparency as well.

Saying "that's just how Steam works with 'new' releases" is just not accurate if you've spent any time on the platform at all. Older games pop up for sale all the time on Steam listed as their ORIGINAL release date. The only games that might get a pass on faking a new release date is a remaster or maybe something that's new to PC.

Me using "scam" may be a bit extreme, but it's clearly a predatory practice and I'm sure everyone would prefer if there was a clear "original release date" in store listings.

Exactly :) but dont worry about the release date. The people already know is a old game.

Also is normal about release on steam.

its the release date on Steam. Please engage your brain...

Would you prefer to see the store page for Watch Dogs: Legion which is coming to Steam show "Release Date: January 26, 2023" instead state "Release Date: October 29, 2020" and while viewing it wonder why you can't purchase it?
