simple answer. u wont get rich because of upkeep fees too high
Death Feb 20, 2024 @ 8:58am
If you can't afford to support it, then you should get rid of it. Trying to get too much, too quick is just going to tank your playthrough.

They in this new version of the game made ships of tier 3, 2, and 1 cost a lot more in upkeep. I don't know why they decided to do that.

i can somewhat understand it, it makes sense because the large ships are so much more powerful. The problem is there is no great way to make muchy money in trading from what I can see to actually make profit, and most of the income you get from combat goes to repairs and replacing crew because while my buckshot doesn't seem to take out enemy sailors very well, normal canon balls shred MY crew with every hit.

suppose not an issue to have big ship with high upkeep fees. we should have a way how to make fast money to support multiple big ship with high upkeep fees

otherwise u will only have small ship with 1 or 2 ships only all the way

u are right. most are the money goes to ship repair.

even trading are worst. buying and selling price are too much different. unable to make profit on buy sell.. i mean make big money in trading goods

simple answer there is no way to make big money in this version to support multiple big ship. otherwise we unable to capture town

36k is pretty low upkeep. Play slowly, check different income routes.
There are many ways to make profit. On lower difficultes you dont need to even bother by Shares.
- Buy/Sell is a bad way to make profit - rather than lvl skill
- Best way is to sell items or from doing quests - sea race/mail delivery, raid

how do u make good profit? pls share thanks

Like i said before - do quests on start to learn the game.
After that hire good purser, equip merchant beads on him +15 trade
Do smuggling istead of trade(rank4,5 ships).
Raid trade caravans - sell ships and goods on the "capital" Islands (goods in store will be marked as orange), with good rep some of them will surrender without fight and you can turn crew into slaves and sell to smugglers
Take treasure maps - you can sell items from them for very big profit without share.

Trading only worth with 2-3 big ships and trading skill 70+

Yup. high upkeep comes from officers.
Ship crew is like 15% of the upkeep so it's better to get officers that can cover 2 or 3 positions.
Best way to get money fast is escort ships/slave smuggling mission or helping a besieged fort. Sieges alone can give you 100k if you win.

U need to pay attention to the buy and selling prices in different locations. I have two class 2, two class 3 and one class 1 with over 100 000 upkeep which I get from trading in right location.

Spend some time in the "trade book" part of the logbook and throw your efforts into getting trading license + spanish flag ability:)

Once you manage to get 1-2 ships to haul your cargo, it gets exponentially easier. You man and max out a fighter ship, get another 1-2 galeons with 0 crew and supplies, and fill it with whatever you get from boarding enemy ships. Have the 2 ships tank and you deal dmg, board, take over. have plenty of officers on hand to set as captains.

That's it. Target spanish golden fleets next - put gold in warehouse for 2-3 months then sell it. If you sell it right after you board the gold fleed, it's price will be significantly lowered.

Dunno about others but i m making money by tons. i mean i have a 1 mil and 200k pesos in two days of playing. And i didn t even started Dutch Gambit. You make so much money if you check the supply/demand on stores and sell to the highest price. And don t forget about slaves, just made 109k one hour ago. I think the game is easier than SeaDogs TEHO. You have endless money making opportunities, besides storyline and DLC. Go and improve relations with nations. Pirate some traders and loot then sell... you make money even at the tavern with ♥♥♥♥ you find in the room. As a tip, store some gunpowder and weapons at warehouse then sell it all. ♥♥♥♥♥♥♥♥♥ of money just from stuff you find on pirates and other ships. Just check the port prices.

Ehh thats weird.. im playing on hard difficulty and my default ship class 5 from the storyline has 155.000 upkeep.. also the crew of 40 are asking for like 20k each month how the hell is it that expensive.. im barely making 20k each couple of ingame weeks.

Is the issue here that the difficulty is set to high or a bug?

Settings are on hard mode

I don't even do active trading and just live off quest rewards and the sale of captured pirate ships or spanish military vessels.
Just don't forego any opportunity for money. Loot every chest and drawer, help every damsel in distress, pick up all flotsam you find. If your ship is still too weak for battles just "join" a battle between two nations neutral to you (e.g. Dutch vs English when playing Charles) and pick up the flotsam when they sink each other.
Also try to "stack" quests, i.e. when you do an escort or cargo run quest, also pick up passengers that want to go in the same general direction and drop them off along the way. Ideally you make money in every port you stop in, either from quests rewards or from selling ships/goods or other loot.

I am before the Dutch gambit, have a million pesos and 4000 doubloons on the bank and the second million of pesos in the making.
