What is the fastest way to level "Navigation"?
Really annoying that I swing a sword like ♥♥♥♥ because my ship is 1 size too big, what is the best way to cheese this skill?

Dont forget the Storm Skill and Ward for Storms if you level with Storm and use a cheap class 5 ship for Storm leveling.
Storm is the best. Stay longer in it and you get from 30% to 80%/90% in 15/20 seconds lol

Sail and do ♥♥♥♥. But you get a large boost when sailing in Storms! So... go in STORMS.

Probably works but have cash because repairs are expensive.
You can fit your navigator with a pendant that helps with storm damage and also train a skill too. Drop your sails in the storm and it's not too severe but maybe use a tiny ship when you do this. Good luck.

The mail delivery missions from the harbor master, the ones that require a speedy ship, give navigation xp when completed. Or I think I remember that that was a way to level navigation n the last version of the game.

the sailing quests carrying passengers, escorting ships and such. i just got 3 nav by escorting a trader to a lighthouse.

A developer of this app has indicated that this post answers the original topic.

How long? and how do i know i hit the max. Also, this gives me 90% of a point of navigation or how does it work

I'm not sure if it's inefficient on impossible difficulty, but with duelist archetype, I spent time in storm until my corvette (3300 hull) started sinking, and it barely increased at 34 navigation from 14% to 70%.

Using storms is inefficient in my experience until you have the Jonah ward and/or the Sailing In Storms skill as it damages your ship much faster than you gain skill.
Yeah, there's a ward you can get later, Jonah, that *really* reduces storm damage, I'd wait until that and then just hit speed boost and sail in all the storms that come and bother you. Right now I'd say the perk alone isn't enough to make it worthwhile.

Yeaaaah, not efficient at all on impossible difficulty. Had a corvette with 3.2k hull, Longway at 66 navigation, at 7% with both sailing in storms perk and Jonah ward. Spent 15 min in a storm and barely increased his navigation from 7 to 77%. On the other hand, my nav increased from 42 to 44 (duelist background). Had to pay 44k in repairs and spend 5 days. So yeah, perhaps in early levels it's efficient, but not after 65. Might as well just go sinking ships, doing sea marathons and courier jobs.

EDIT: I do find this method efficient to raise naval skills for officers to get perks

No need to cheese anything. Just play the game normally, complete Store Owner's Missions, HM' missions, and Citizen transport in the beginning. The navigation skill will increased fast, that of course depends on the archetype You chose (T - Talent matters in this regard). The storm variant as many suggest not cost effective and pointless w/o the ward 'Thor's Hammer'. In addition, I must say that in the beginning you better of with class 4 ship because the quest/mission enemies will level accordingly and will be easier to play. I'd suggest higher class ships after 'Defense of Saint-Pierre'.

Its the Jonas ward you want, not Thor's Hammer. You can get your first jonas after the Dutch gambit and going through Long Way to the Gallows. Basically makes you immune to storms and gives 5% to global map speed.

Yep, that's the one. I confused it with the other.
