A tutorial of money checks
Holy. Crap. Am I missing something or was this tutorial not playtested?

I went through all the available initial missions to make money, looted everyone and everything I could find, and still had to sell all my doubloons and make money by gambling to get to the point where I get the navigator. Now, I had to sell some of the medicine I had to buy (it really doesn't help that the game won't tell you how much food and medicine you need btw) just to buy the cannonballs and stuff. And now the navigator is telling me that I need to buy ANOTHER 5K pesos in weapons? Bro, I have 43 pesos left. There is no way of making money except for endlessly savescumming and stealing from houses. Just let me set sail already.

Even if I didn't ♥♥♥♥ myself over by giving the earrings to the governor (a cheap map instead of 4k? Thanks...), I couldn't pay for all this. What kind of game design is this anyways? Welcome to tutorial hell, where we practically disable all ways to make money, yet most of your objectives are to buy ♥♥♥♥ or have money.

Did you do the quest for the soldier that wants European wine? It allows you a one time doubling of investment up to 30000. It is probably best to make as much money as you otherwise can before paying for the ship then doing the soldier's quest to roughly double that sum.

It wouldn't be so bad if the game generated random quests that you could keep doing until you finally got everything covered.
I'm in the same boat as OP... :lunar2019crylaughingpig:

Same situation I am going through. Looks like had I went to buy the wine for the soldier, he would've ordered more and I'd have 30k. But I could not find a vendor selling wine and happened upon an officer who paid me 1k to rat out the soldier.

You probably looked for the wine in trade menu. You need to ask about it in dialogue.

Try selling the map to he priest street vendor. Or monk or friar or whatever his title is.

I just restarted, had a bit more luck with loot this time, and farmed a ton of pesos by savescumming gamblers. I'm sailing free now. I would really like to advise the devs to address this, because softlocking people in tutorials is a surefire way to get a ton of refund requests. The missions themselves are fun though!

Devs manipulated with start quests a bit much for begginers and make all things worse.
You dont need save scum for game if you play slowly(maybe for strating officers on max difficulty).
- on start of the game loot all chests in houses in city, fort and pirate settlement, spots wth random item spawns
- store everything in fort chest(leave only worst weapon equipped, arpoon for example)
- go to the governer
- take gear back from chest, loot everything again
- do all start quests, choose money every time(like sell governer`s wife pendant to store owner)
- do wine quest with max bottles (70 as i remember), leave remaining for yourself - best heal in the game
- you will have ship, crew and about 50k left

On the beginning ignore gamblers, most money you make is from selling weapons - 3 machete from cannibals quest is around 10k play for fun or rolepaly :)

Low price for ships is game mechanic - they are considered "stolen" by previous owner. Raid trade ships - you can sell them and cargo for a full price.

If you do it right, you can finish the tutorial with right around 60,000 pesos. Just follow the TEHO guide and you'll be starting out pretty good.

Prices for captured ships are way too low, regardless of being stolen. It is an entire ship ffs and usually you are selling ships to ports that are from opposing factions or pirates, it makes no sense and punishes the player for playing. Same with smuggling, every time I try to talk to the fellows on a beach there is a patrol, for some reason I doubt most smugglers had their own personal government patrols/ships watching them to make a trade. I don't know if it is just really bad luck or something but 10+ hours into the game and I can barely make money, doing quests is the only way I have been able to stay afloat.

I had the wine but could not find the solider again went back several times and talked to every solider at the fort. I finally just ratted him out for a 1k as well I have the navigator but cant afford the weapons. cant find anymore quests and have cleaned out all the houses guess ill try gambling as well or start over.

You have to wait until the next day to sell it to him and he's on the top level of the fort outside.

Story mode? If there is some special tutorial I missed somehow then I apologise but really?
WTF? I had so much money I was loaded and did everything in the story at the start and got a ship easily. Did you go to the church and get your 50k loan? The priest on the left of the altar? How can you be out of cash in the story? It sends you there and gives you money almost straight away.

You can only get the loan from the priest if you click to skip the tutorial when talking to your brother.

OK thankyou. I stand corrected. Handy to know.
