Can I get Fallout 3 to work on my computer?
I was considering getting Fallout 3 but I know it won't work on my computer(it's a Windows 7). Is it possiblity to get the game to work by changing the game's settings in compatiblity mode? Has anyone tried that and succeeded?

Is it not supposed to work on windows 7? Cause thats news to me. Im running it on windows 7 and I didnt have to change any compatiblity modes. lol

Also we can't tell you if you can run it without specs

It works perfectly fine on Window 7 and Windows 8, just was not optimized for them. I run it 60FPS on Ultra on a ♥♥♥♥♥♥ laptop, you should be fine!

Operating System: Windows 7
Processor: Intel Core i7-4600U CPU @ 2.10GHz, 2.70GHz
Ram: 8.00 GB
Video card:NVIDIA GeForce GT 720M

It's says on the store page that the game is not optimized for the Windows 7 or newer and there have alot of negative reviews saying that game repeatedly crashes on newer computers. I just assumed mine wouldn't work based on that.

Ill give you that. It does crash a lot. But thats more of a bethesda thing really. Skyrim does that too... So it can be a bit finniky
I cant even start the game here... W7.

I need to know this before I purchase the game since I have Windows 7. I'm actually thinking about gifting it to my boyfriend too, but this is still a concern.

There's a fix for Windows 7 and WIndows 8, you just need a download an outdate version of directx or something weird, look under the Fallout 3 "Guides" section! It's like a 2 minute fix.

As long as it meets minimal specs it should be fine. Crashing IS an issue but if you're willing to look there are solutions to the most common ones like if it just randomly freezes and such. But you still need to check your specs against the requirements

I've had a lot of issues playing without some fan made patches, but this site: http://steamcommunity.com/app/22370/discussions/0/828937546147175081/ fixed all of my problems.

How often does it crash? I played and LOVED New Vegas on PS3, and in the 100 hours I spent with it it crashed maybe a dozen times. Considering how complex the world is and the fact that it's saving all the time, it wasn't a huge deal. Is it like that?

Normally I'd just ignore warnings about not being compatible with newer OSes since typically everything is, but I was a bit concerned with this one...in fact I bought the console version because I assumed it WOULDN'T work, but maybe that wasn't the case...
I bought Fallout3 in 2011, and I only have about 70 minutes of playtime logged in the span of 3 YEARS. This is because everytime I try to play, I get as far as the main menu and click New Game, then the game crashes. Everytime. Those 70 minutes of "playtime" are really 70 minutes of me trying to get the damn thing to work. And now that steam offers refunds for games, I thought I could get my money back, but nnoooooo, steam says I'm not eligible for a refund because I bought it too long ago. Such ♥♥♥♥♥♥♥♥..... Anyone know how I might be able to fix this? Or maybe how I can get steam to give me my money back?

Literally google can fix it, also if you took time to read up into the "guides" section of Fallout 3 you'd see that there are many fixes.
I've tried so many different things to fix it, but I haven't done anything in over a year and can't remember what I have tried and what I haven't tried.... Plus, now it asks me for a cd code, which I never got from steam for this game.
