Red Alert 2 Movie fix patch

The Steam release of the game is bugged and two movie files seems to be damaged, or tampered. This cause the game to crash when displaying some cutscenes, like the intro for the Soviet's mission 10.

I made a simple patch to fix the movies files based on the working Origin version.

Extract the archive in the Red Alert 2 folder and launch RA2moviePatch.bat

I suggest cnc-ddraw, it's a lot more compatible. But it's a matter of opinions.

TUC never included cnc-ddraw. If your folder had cnc-ddraw, you put that there yourself, or installed the CnCNet client.

It's possible that the update reverted other game files as well, yea; not sure how Steam 's update system works in that aspect.

Yea, the patch directly modifies movies01.mix and movies02.mix, so it's a fair bet those got reverted.

This version uses the game's addon system to simply add overrides for the corrupted files, so it should keep working even if things get updated:

I tested it in-game, and while I haven't ♥♥♥♥♥♥ to Soviet mission 10 so far, I confirmed that it fixed the corrupted file in the Allied campaign, so the system works.

Note that the allied video doesn't actually crash the game; it just has some minor video corruption and plays on. It's the radar minimap video you get when you take too long at the start of mission 8, "Free Gateway", and Tanya gets mind controlled.

I can verify that this fixes the Allied's Operation: Liberty when there is a radio message stating that the Soviets have replaced Lincoln's head with Stalin's at the Lincoln Memorial located in the top left corner of the map.

Yes, the movie are now officially fixed. After only one year EA uploaded the correct files :D
