I cant launch Red alert 2 from steam

im trying to launch red alert 2 from the steam menu , but it just wont i tried cncnet beta (there the campaign work but i want it to startup from steam) i even tried bibbers launchers fix

Yeah same i was wanting the HD fixes from cncnet but still wanting to run it thru steam trying to start it shuts down right away. I could not get the ini settings to work i was just wanting to have it at a slightly higher res and maybe full screen. cncnet seems cool but i don't know what all it changes i just want the og experience lol i used to have the big box for the game and now all that's left after all this time is the one allied cd.

you don't need to install cncnet, you can just extract this file into your game folder and it should work

That helped I did have to use a older ddraw.dll for some reason it still would not launch. it's the one i seen someone posted on here https://github.com/CnCNet/ts-ddraw/releases. I replaced it with the newer one in that zip and it runs now Thanks.

Try this ddraw.dll from 2019 it worked for me https://github.com/CnCNet/ts-ddraw/releases

I actualy tried a fresh install off the game tried adding the map from https://github.com/FunkyFr3sh/cnc-ddraw/releases in to the ra2 folder , now it startups finnaly :D

Nice! yeah mines working good and has steam overlay too so i'm happy and not going to mess with anything else

I have the exact problem and fixed it

Problem: ra2 and YR wont launch via steam upon installing cncnet

But game works in cncnet

Solution:
Browse local file of ra2
Look for:
Game app
Gamemd app
Ra2 app
RA2MD App

Right click the files mentioned
and click Properties

Then under compatibility mode
Check the box
Mine is Windows XP (Servive Pack 2)

It's because cncnet installs an old version of cncddraw, just have to update it with the GitHub page linked two posts up and then you don't need the compatibility stuff.
