What's the difference?

Based on each of their respective loadouts, none. Based on their "designated" role on the modern battlefield, Sharpshooters/Designated Marksman are responsible for providing accurate fire over longer ranges in the squad, while snipers are supposed to keep a distance from enemy forces and act as a deterrent for enemies and providing intel on enemy troop movements.
Nothing at all. Aside from the cost the FAL/EBR are leagues better than the bolt actions aswell.

A sniper is usually part of a 2 man team, with a spotter. They are usually outfitted with single shot (or semi automatic), high caliber rifles. They operate at extreme ranges. Sometimes they are outfitted with anti-materiel rifle.

A designated Marksman is part of a full fledged squad and are usually outfitted with an accurate battle rifle (like say a G3SG/1) with precision scope to provide precision fire support to a squad. These Marksmen move with the squad and usually operate at the same ranges as the squad itself, but are tasked with taking out.. say a MG gunner, in an MG nest, which can't be reached otherwise.
I meant in terms of the game.
I think some of the attachments and stuff cost more or less points based on if you're a Designated Marksman/Sniper/etc. I never checked for sure though.

This, but very minor

As someone who is always 1 point away from the loadout they want, it's not very minor. :pleased:

+1. This is why the Devs should restucture the classes.

1 Designated Marksman
1 Demo/EOD Specialist
1 Grenadier/Heavy weapons Specialist
1 Squad Leader/Rifleman
1 Breacher
1 SAW Gunner
2 Riflemen

For bigger servers they could add just the roles you might find in a Security Detail with limited access to heavy weapons. That would be adding:

1 Breacher
1 SAW Gunner
2 Riflemen

For a single 12 man squad (instead of 2 eight man squads).

The Insurgents TO&E would be:

1 Leader
1 Bomber
1 RPG/ Grenadier
1 Machinegunner
1 Sniper
1 Fighter
2 Militants

With the addition of the following to complete their 12 man squad.

1 Machinegunner
1 Fighter
2 Militants

With this class structure; You simply dump the Grenadier, and Bomber/EOD classes to reach your compliment of 6 X 6 for a match. The 12 man squad will reduce the explosive and long range sniper "spam" in game. It is also a realistic squad for Security Details (who are rifle "heavy" and explosives/Heavy Weapons "light" in reality).
One has different weapons from another!!!

It is pretty straight forward. roles do not actually prevent or restrict your actions in the game. so the only difference between them is what weapons you can choose.

For roles to matter, the players themselves must "act" their role. which almost never happens
@Varmant, Nope, they have the exact same loadout options. The only difference is in their class appearance.

Imho theres a few too many snipers in this game, especially for push on the attacking team

Just be glad that this isn't a game where snipers rule the maps even when the biggest distance is 5ft as in other games.
