How does penetration work in this game?
Is there any way to find out which objects and walls can be penetrated by your bullets?
I get shot behind walls sometimes, but then my bullets get stopped by wooden planks.

Does the caliber matter? I always think that 7.62 mg rounds should go through thin walls, but 9mm shouldn't. But it seems to be different from wall to wall. Sometimes i'm sure that the enemy had no chance to survive, but they somehow walk away wihtout a scratch.
Does every caliber go through cars?

The tutorial only told me that i can shoot through wood, which is something i would have expected anyway.

Deep and hard if you don't check your corners.

Both rifle and pistol calibres can go through cars. It depends on a lot of factors though. And for example if you fire a MP5 at a guy with a heavy vest and you hit him in the chest at let's say medium range, he could survive quite a few of your bullets and this happens IRL as well. That's why most CT units try to find alternative calibres to the 9 mm. Most kevlar vests can easily block 9 mm bullets.

AP aids in penetration, and the FAL/M14 penetrate better I believe.

To test penetration offline, run these commands in console (the Insurgency console does support copy & paste):
sv_cheats 1 ins_bot_quota 0 sv_showimpacts 1 sv_showdamage 2 map ministry

You can change the last line to whichever map you want. Then you'll be able to see damage and penetration like so:

But generally penetration severely slows down your bullets when going through walls, meaning that directed fire is needed for a wallbang. It's not like CoD where you could just spray random walls in HC mode and rack up kills that way. It must be directed and you have to shoot a bunch of times. And at range, penetration really drops off quickly.

AP rounds will allow bullet penetration through objects.

Has AP just a higher chance to penetrate objects, than normal ammunition, or does normal ammo have no chance at all?

it depends on the amount of 'be fore play' and mouse sensitivity, not to mention 'mods'.... ;)
For some folks (noobies), it's pretty much 'inuindo'....as it was for all of us, at one time.

For the record....I lol'd too, BuRgLaR :)
