Silencer?
What's the point of silenced guns? There is no map or something, it's just useless. Am i wrong? I'm not to much into this game, please explain how useful can it be.

The distance at which the weapon being fired is audible to enemy players and it cancels out muzzle flash.
The help conceal your position.

Considering the varied background of those who play the game, ex-operators, PMC's, regular army, CoD gamers, Arma fans, and CS:GO fans, as well as everything inbetween everyone has a different way of playing and different kit preferences. Some people use suppressors because they like how they look and sound, others might use them in game because they used them in real life.

Sound is an important mechanism to locate or atleast be aware of enemies, so a silencer can give an edge when taking enemies down while flanking.
It doesn't mess with damage or range.
It also removes your muzzle-flash, making you less easy to spot in daylight, a lot more concealed at nighttime, and makes your shots not blind you at night / with nightvision.
I also the believe the AI in coop-gamemodes will not be alerted as early as it would with an unsilenced gun.

I use a silencer primarily if I'm trying to snipe from some cover. No muzzleflash means it's much more difficult to spot you.

This. I don't use the suppressor all the time, but if I feel like flanking or sniping I usually will.

The main benefit I see in PvP is a mix of:
  • No muzzle flash. This can be a big deal on night maps or dark areas, like basement on Ministry.
  • Most people can identify the sound a weapon makes in Insurgency since most weapons sound distinctly different from eachother. But when they are suppressed, they all sorta blend together and they're harder to tell apart. Sometimes you'll notice that coming behind a team and firing a suppressed weapon in CQB, some/most people won't even turn around because they don't know who is doing the firing and they feel safer aiming towards a known enemy position, not turning around at what might just be their own team. The suppressed M16 and suppressed SKS don't sound that terribly different from eachother, for example.

Silent MP5K with tracers and a 2x is a great flanking setup I use. The tracers will make the enemies think it's an ally behind them and the silencer will make it harder to distinguish from the loud blasting of AKs while the 2x will help in picking off people from farther back.

A: there is a map
B: silencer makes your gun make less noise, so you are harder to locate by a player that has sounds. And hides your muzzle flash.

I really can't imagine playing games like this without sounds.

The SEC tracers are red, the INS tracers are green...

If one isn't a total noob, they'll notice.

The suppressor is actually very handy for the fact it hides your position. As a co-op player, this comes in handy with killing AI since they can barely detect your through sound. From what it feels between the Heavy Barrel and Suppressor, I found the Heavy Barrel does mitigate more recoil than the suppressor on certain weapons.

Only drawbacks to the suppressor I have noticed is reduced suppression and cost (excluding the Sterling).

Definitely a great attachment if you know how to use it.

Though there is not a map on the hud I found the silencer more useful in this game than in other games like, says battlefield, where silencer conceal your position on map. In Insurgency noise and rumors plays a huge role in locating enemy position because of lack of minimap or any other sort of spotting mechanism. Hence the great advantage given by a silenced weapon. Then there is not muzzle flash and no cons on damage output or range of the weapons (at least not so clear reduction differently from other games). Hence the great supply cost of a silencer. Moreover silenced weapons looks and sounds cooler :)

Suppressors do not make weapons silent. Silencer is a name given to muzzle attachment's by hollywood. You will do your best to forget the missinformation that you have learned. Suppressors do not make weapons completly silent by nature. Consider using a 45.cal since those are naturally sub-sonic and are better for being quiet when using a suppressor.

"There is no map or something"

No, but there is a compass/radial-menu. Get it ?

"What's the point of silenced guns?"

Have you never played an FPS before ? No offense.

"Silencer is a name given to muzzle attachment's by hollywood."

"Silencer" was the name given to what could/should be considered the first silencer to be invented/concepted.
