Do AP and HP rounds actually do anything ?
I'm curious is their really much difference ? I thought this would have the most effect with smaller caliber rifles like the M16, M4, Galil, AK74 and Smgs / Pistols but it doesn't seem to do anything. Heavy caliber rifles like M14, FN FAL and AKM etc. don't seem effected at all ethier. The only ammo difference I notice are shotgun slugs (obviously). So are the AP and HP rounds just a waste of supply points ?

ap punches through armor better, high calibers go through the heavy stuff like butter. HP goes high damage to un armored guys and unarmored body parts such as the arms and legs

This. Generally, people just go with AP all the time.

AP can also shoot through certain objects. Beware though, the damage does drop off when going through these objects.

Just remember that pistol with ap beats heavy armor but akm with standard bullets wont go through wooden platforms. Always go for AP.

AP always for PvP. It's good to use sometimes in co-op but in PvP you want to make sure you have AP on your primary 100% of the time.

essentially but not fully correct.

AP grants bonus damage on shots to torso and head, but reduced damage to limbs (arms/legs)

HP grants bonus damage to limbs but reduced damage to torso and head. Meaning it's vastly inferior, because people tend to aim for either center of mass or head, which AP will demolish.

The enemy armor has no bearing on that. Armor only reduces damage done to torso by a set percentage as far as I know, meaning HP rounds against armor are at a double disadvantage.

AP with pistols is really noticable. On someone with heavy armor a normal pistol will take like 5 or more shots to the torso, with AP it takes like 2-3. Generally - with rifles - AP will make you one-shot kill more stuff at more ranges. AP is definitly better, hence more expensive.

HP rounds are essentially useless since most players and insurgents have armor.

I would by no means call it useless. You can one tap most enemies in the knee with the .45 at any range using hp. Really helps in coop

I suppose if the ragheads let you get that close. Personally I'd rather put them down long before they are in pistol range. =)

I like HP for 'holding' stairs. The angles on them, promote leg/limb/head shots and they seem to 'drop' faster.

ALWAYS get AP rounds in PVP :)

AP vs unarmoured targets, is weaker than 'normal' rounds. I believe its normally around 0.75-0.80% damage. If the enemy is wearing armour than its 3X damage multiplier. HP has 3-4X damage multiplier to limbs, essentially meaning a leg/arm shot is a head shot. UMP HP rounds have 4x damage multiplier to limbs, and is great for camping angels where people are running at 90 degree to you (where their arm hitbox will generally get in the way of their torso hitbox). HP on LMG is also excellent for holding the same 90 degree angles, where a short burst is almost garunteed to hit their limb hitboxes. Use accordingly.

AP affects armored places well, hence the name. AKA torso, center mass, and the head. HP hits legs and arms very wel..

Yeah, HP ammo can be really great when you're prone watching an entance to a point or some other chokepoint. You just have to aim for the legs/crotch.
