idk depends on which class are you playing at, you don't need heavy armor if you are a sniper, and you don't need armor if you rush with smgs/pistols strat

Pistols only

None unless coop, and then it's heavy.

+1

I know some people are going to come in and disagree, citing personal experiences where armor "saved" them, but based on the damage values of the game[jballou.com], even Heavy Armor will only allow you to take 1 or 2 extra AP bullets.

The problem? Players don't usually shoot you one or two times. They tend to shoot at you alot. Often in full auto. So those 1-2 extra bullets don't matter when you absorb 10 of them in an instant. And it doesn't protect your arms or legs so you still take full damage there. Hell, the M16 w/AP will kill someone in 1 shot... in the hand.

Those points are better spent on your weapon, getting yourself a foregrip or suppressor or something. Armor also slows you way down, and speed is important in this game. That's why most players don't pack pistols even though one of them costs 0 points. The added weight gets them killed.

But in co-op? Sure, even I use it there.

None, everyone should be running AP anyways, not worth the points or weight, also only ONE pouch unless you're using explosives, one pouch gives you 5 spare mags for rifles or 25 rounds for the bolt actions, the second pouch gives you ONE extra magazine and 5 extra bullets for bolts.

Well having an additional pouch allows for 3 nades, 1 primary nade and 2 secondary nades, but considering you said you should use a chest rig unless you're carrying explosives you probably know this anyway

Also I always use heavy armor unless I'm a sniper as I usually deal in close quarters combat and although the damage model would indicate that having armor would seem useless, in these encounters having heavy armor would allow you to survive a couple of AP rounds and respond to an attack. Generally not having AP rounds don't matter as much in these close encounters as typically a CQC class would have options of fully automatic weapons.

However I've used light armor before as it is a good compromise for its cost in comparison to heavy armor, especially on insurgent forces when most things are more expensive. This is all just my preference and people might like the mobility offererd by lighter armor and pistol (or no pistols at all) choices. However the advantages in mobility in no armor offers is not something I would recommend and I never not have armor on of some sort as even the weakest weapons such as secondaries, including the makarov, would be able to kill you, whereas a makarov can take many bullets of a mag to down a heavy armored opponent.

I used to be the biggest proponent of heavy armor back in the day but it only has an effect if there are mitigating circumstances to the damages in the first place, like...
  • Shot through cover
  • Shotguns
  • Pistols

Now ask yourself, how often do those things kill you?

You're spending 3 points on something that only has an effect, what... 5% of the time? Maybe 10% being generous?

Using those points for something else like a foregrip or suppressor, those points are being spent every time you fire your weapon. It's much more economical.

And speed isn't just about being able to run across the street fast, it's about being able to get into a good position before your enemy and ADS. If you are lighter, you will get there first, ADS, and they walk into your bullets... unprepared to encounter an enemy player at that spot at that time already sighted up on them. If you wear armor, you're counting on them missing, them not using a good weapon, or for them to also be heavy like yourself.

Me personally, I'd rather have my strategies built around what I'm doing, rather than counting on the other guy to make mistakes for me to come out on top.

But that's just what I learned from over 100,000 PvP kills from more than 2,000 hours of gameplay. (I know how arrogant that sounds but when looking for advice on a game, check the hours played and their stats[tbgclan.gameme.com] if possible. Not all advice is equal.)

When I took off the Heavy Armor (I used to be a big proponent of its use), I noticed I'd get the same blurring and damage indicators just as often as I did with armor on. All those times I thought armor was saving me, it wasn't. I was just getting skimmed and/or suppressed so the armor wasn't doing anything. If anything, it was making me run slower, get places late, so I would be shot at more.

I know that armor isn't the best against bullets, but I usually wear armor to protect my self from nades. We all know light armor isn't gonna do much against that full auto AKM, but it has helped me survive some nades that I would've died from if I wasn't wearing it. Armor is mainly for weak guns and to not die as much from nades. If you don't like armor thats fine cause in some cases it does suck it just depends on ur play style

I love heavy armor for when i'm playing tryhard or when i'm not sure what i should be running yet. I've had plenty of instances where heavy armor allowed me to survive enough shots to get the kill on someone who had the advantage on me. Anytime i run an M16/AK weapon i have heavy armor attached.

However when i know i need to get somewhere first in order to win the round, i go light to no armor (depends on if its free). I also go light to no armor when i need those points to get an attachment that i just can't live without on the gun i am using. Silencer for the MP5k, foregrip and AP on the Galiel, 8x and ap on the M14. All those require me to go light or no armor.

Just depends on your needs and personal preferences.

In fact I always want a medium armor but it dont exist.... because heavy do not very much somtime so i prefer take the point for sth else
RaÿTHeoN: Sep 3, 2016 @ 4:19pm
Well when I'm playing coop armor doesn't seem to do much

Every bot shot seems to be a headshot so what's the point?
Reebs Sep 3, 2016 @ 4:36pm
Can someone confirm that having armor reduces explosive damage done to you?
