High Ping for some players
I run a custom server and my provider is Bluefangsolutions. I get awesome service and for the most part never any lag with full 16 players on. However, after the last steam update a few months ago, about a dozen players out of the hundreds that visit my server monthly, get high pings when more than 5 people join. These guys are part of my [SoTu] crew and never had an issue before the update, can someone please share some light on this and maybe what I can tell them to fix their ping issues? Their ping starts off around 35...and once we get about 5 or 8 players join in, their ping rises as high as 950, and this is on custom and original Insurgency maps, so the type of map doesn't matte. Thanks in Advance.

At one time I had two servers with BlueFang.....in total, over a two year period of time, several server providers....I let them all go for the same reasons...'service'. It seems the longer you are with them, the worse it gets. So, I got my own server and it was cheap...still works perfectly and I ran two Coop Checkpoint servers on it...and at one time a TS server. It's easier to do than most people are aware of....it doesn't take much computer or bandwidth to do it. I have, at my home, 100 down and 7 up....The wife and I, along with 8 to ten group members play with no loss what so ever.... You should try it?

I’ve been using ViLayer for about a year now... it was a little rocky at first with their control panel going down from time to time but the last 6 or 7 mos have been smooth sailing & trouble free.

They host my 128 tick 24 player server and I believe they also host all the competitive servers for TheGym discord. My “var” typically hovers around 0.6 when it’s full.

Thanks guys and I will definitely keep that in mind, especially running my own, because I am capable of doing just that. But my question is, why are just a few guys having ping issues and myself and the others aren't? Trust me, it isn't the provider Bluefang...it has something to do with the last steam update a few months ago...because they never had an issue before the update.

It can be many things involved. I'm sitting three feet from my server...I have folks in Europe, UK, Canada, South America, PR and the Russian corner of the world playing on it. I'm in Texas, US.

From time to time...not very often...one of them will have an issue briefly. The fellow in PR has the most issues, he can only get WiFi type internet there now, due to the hurricane last year.

I've found that how your ISP routes your service can have some effect, good or bad. Not much you can do about that. Also, there are a lot of folks to profess to know what they are doing and why....often times, they don't. They may have a wired connection to the house...but are using the wifi to computer...and sharing with others in the house...creates an up and down ping/packet situation.

My internet is cable....the more on it, especially when all them hoodlum kids are on (lol) it can vary too in speed or usability.

If it's just an occasional problem...you may have to live with it?

Copy that Pudfark. I dont ever have an issue, ever with my server which is located in Chicago and I am in Memphis Tn. And your are right, it could be a lot of things, but it's so strange that they had no issues before steam update and now they do. And I will ask if they are running wifi, because if you are a gamer, a true gamer, there is no way you should be gaming on wifi and not ethernet...lol. Thanks a lot bruh for the info.
