There really isnt one. They share recoil, ROF, etc. Only real difference is in ironsights.

MK18 I think is slightly shorter but I think it's insignificant to actually make a difference in actual gameplay. Some classes get access to M4, some to MK18... but not both at the same time. Because they're largely the same.

Technically they're both carbines. Anyways, I don't think there really is much of a difference. It makes sense because the MK18 is simply a different configuration. The MK18 feels like it has less recoil, but I don't know for certain.

i think the mk18 has lower rate of fire

The m4 and mk18 are both the exact same thing ingame. Both have the exact same stats and weight, along with damage output and recoil. The only reason the two exist is to add a touch of variety and realism to the game. They didn't just use m16's and m4's you know. The iron sights are the only difference in the game.

The MK18 is more compact meaning you can stand closer to a wall and lean out to aim without being blocked.

The m4 has a longer barrel than the mk18 meaning that full auto could possibly be more controllable because of the extra weight on the front.

They both share the exact same recoil map

Edit: According to the ins wiki...
MK18:
Damage 110-46
Max range 10000
Rate of fire 740 RPM
Reload time 3.83s loaded
4.53s unloaded

M4A1:
Damage 110-46
Max range 10000
Rate of fire 740
Reload time 3.83s loaded
4.53s unloaded

Feel free to look for yourself but if that doesnt convince you nothing will

In game they are pretty much the same, though the Mk18's 10.3 inch barrel allows for you to hug walls closer and still be able to fire without the rifle barrel being pulled down (a rather annoying feature of the game)

The M4 can attach the M203 (for the classes that can equip it), while the Mk. 18 can't.
Different attachments. If anything I'd say M4 is more versatile.

The MK18 is more shorter than the M4A1 and cannot attach an M203 of rest everything is the same
