The live action films are their own thing and only take names, characters and creatures from the game to use. That's not to say that the films didn't spread some of their influence to the games though.
Resident Evil 4 features a laser grid that's very similair to the one from the first film, and the Red Queen was integrated into the games in Umbrella Chronicles.
Otherwise they're really not connected to each other.
They also tend to not be very good films. I didn't find the first RE movie to be so bad, but when they started to make it into a series of similar films that I think became progressively more stupid or pointless, it just makes me more sad that so often movies don't respect video games and you're almost always better off avoiding them.
I found them much more enjoyable as they got stupider. Punching out Nemesis in a fist fight, exploding birds via magic powers, clones for days, K-Mart, virus somehow draining the oceans, etc.
It was the same thing with Silent Hill. They did so many things right but then they crapped all over it by adding stuff that didn't need to be there. I don't know why they do that. All that these script writers and whoever need to do is simply take the existing content and turn it into a live action thing. There's really no thought involved. But nope, that's not good enough. They have to try and spice it up and in the process end up ruining the original concept and also staining the reputation of the entire franchise.
So to answer the actual question of the topic, no, the movies have nothing to do with the games. They took bits and pieces from all the various games, tossed them into a blender along with generic action movie filler and possibly some fresh turds scooped out of the toilet, mixed that up and presented it to us as the Resident Evil movie series. That's one milkshake I wouldn't want to drink.
