Choosing teams/characters with their different theme song

So 98UM has so many soundtracks from 94-97, and some of AOF and Fatal Fury music. Some of them are easy to select. Like if I select Women Fighters 96 (Kasumi instead of Chizuru) but sometimes if I chose Team Psycho Soldiers, suddenly their 96 theme song played. and when I challenged EX-Mai, her Real Bout theme played. Can somebody know how can you select with different theme, or this is just too random?

if you pick the entire Psycho Soldier Theme, you get the 96-Theme. If you pick the old AoF-Team, you get the old theme etc.

But how exactly? Sometimes it's their 98 theme, and other times it's 96. I can understand AOF Team because of their EX, but Psycho Soldiers seems more or less random,

Sometimes it depends on the complete team you pick, other times it depends on which character comes out first from the CHALLENGER'S side (it varies with every KOF, sometimes it depends on which character you pick first on the select screen, in others it depends on who you pick first on order select. I believe 98 uses the latter method), and other times it depends on which characters are fighting in the 1st round.

In the Psycho Soldiers case, I believe you can hear two different themes if Athena and Kensou fight on the 1st round (they change depending on which one of them is P1 or P2).

I've noticed that when it comes to Ex-Mai as long as I'm not picking up Women Team, and Psycho Soldiers is basically either Athena or Kensou tin the first round o get their 96 theme, is that right?

Yeah, essentially that's how I understand it. For the Psycho Soldiers, if the first round is Athena vs. Kensou, you get their '96 theme. If it's Kensou vs. Athena, you get a vocal remix of the '96 theme.

Woman Fighters team has a whole lot of combinations that I'm aware of:

- With the default team, you get their '98 music (Chizuru's theme).

- With the original '94 team (Mai, King, Yuri) you get a remix of 'Diet' (Yuri's music from AOF2).

- With the original '94 team ON THEIR EX VERSIONS, you get their '95 stage music.

- With the '96 theme (Mai, King, Kasumi), you get their '96 stage music.

As you already pointed out, EX Mai on any other team has her RB2 music. Pretty sure that EX King also has her AOF2 theme if you use her on a edit team, not sure about Yuri.

I think you can also get the Psycho Soldiers '96 theme if you put Athena, Kyo and Iori in a team.

Wow, that's interesting. I was born 92 and so by the time I had any conginitive reasoning 98" Came to the plate. I did play Garou Mark of the Wolves and I was looking for the Fatal Fury version, but the only way I found those wase using the MEME emulator.
