Leona-Chang special intro...any in-universe reason?
Hello...Another thing in the game I've been wondering about for a long time...

It's about Leona's special intro with Chang. I was wondering if it's something derived from a glitch or if there is a particular reason why she does it.

As most of you must know, when Leona faces Chang, there will be the short intro sequence that happens when certains characters meet another with whom they share a history or relationship. She will salute Chang military style, and Chang does nothing in response to her.

Leona reacts to him the same way she reacts to Clark, so thats why I think it happens because of a glitch...maybe the programming logic was : If player2 name starts with C and if player1 name = Leona then do animation(whatever) xD ... kinda like that.

Or is there any in-universe reason for it? maybe Chang was in the military long ago and she knows that and she kinda respects him for that or something like that, but I don't remember anything like that in his background.

If it was a glitch, maybe the devs liked it and left it in the game...I have always liked her reaction to Clark and Chang, it's quite cute and nicely animated, so I would think the devs maybe liked it too even if it was an accident.

Well, maybe someone can enlighten me on this ;)

I'm pretty sure the salute was intended for Ralf, but the coder switched up the intro values for Ralf and Clark. That's why Leona does the same intro pose when fighting Ralf that she also does to Choi (where she is being mean)

they likely kept it in 98UMFE as a joke
Maybe she likes them thicc
Oh, quite possibly thats the case...you may be right...true, she has a special intro with a few characters in which she says "Anata deha katenai" (or hatenai, havent listened closely to her) which means "You cannot win..." or "you're not enough..." if she says hatenai. And yes, she's being kinda of mean to the characters she says that to (Kensou, Ralf, Choi and Athena if I'm not mistaken)

So it derived maybe from some code testing and the coders liked it...it also happened in the original KoF'98 versions so they just kept it in UMFE as well.

Thanks, its a little more clear now.

Originally it was a programming error in 98, but it was kept in later 98 versions and became an actual easter egg in KoF XIV. There's no in-game lore. It was just a programming error that blossomed into an easter egg.
