After you finish the dlc story you wont see greens or blues, purple for sure.
Like previous comment said you can even find purple on heroic.
Think about it, high risk - high reward.
If you have solid 30 set it is enough to go level 40, if not, you can wear anything you found better.
For exotic you can re-craft them using the old one, but better do it when you are already level 40.
Because the level cap increased. Duh.
Once you start the DLC storyline, the max level cap is increased to 40.
The majority of gear you gather in the base story and DLC story will most likely be obsolete in the endgame.
