Is the Technetium solution "subplot" meant to just be for some crazy man drinking radioactive metal for an unknown reason or is it actually supposed to be Technetium-99m and he is taking a post heart attack checkup, presumably said attack brought on by the shock of seeing petroleum and nitroglycerin flying around open flames and lasers seemingly on their own?

Or maybe I'm reading too much into things and this is why he drank the metal in his smoothie:
