Hang in there, you can get lucky and find a fully repaired vehicle.
Put more more points in to scavenging and dismantle cars. You can get some expensive items like alternators and filters from them. Additionally, you can take out a bandit stronghold. I took one out with an Iron crossbow by kiting them. Once all killed, quickly search for loose loot items around the base. I found 3 filters once.
cheers
Don't let yourself be put off and just have fun surviving, expand the base, collect and hunt down a few pirates. Whatever you like... the gold comes by itself...
I remember that feeling too, bought one then it blew up lol. All part of the fun. For the gold nuggets i remember going to traders and figuring out what they wanted for gold then went and sourced it or raidning those bandits and their crates. Was a fun time.
Then all you have to do is mine meteorite and put it in the grinder to get all the gold you need.
And if you see a lot of smoke coming from a main faction base, check it out, as the "hover tank things" can have from 5 to 10 anti grav units, 10 to 15 circuit boards and up around 10 tungsten nuts plus a way lot more.
It's probably scales by the amount of points you put into scavenger.
The latest update addresses this very issue. Seeing as the maps are procedural and the vendors are random, it has happened on a few maps that there simply were no traders for the quests. Now there is a guarantee that there is at least one NPC who will buy the necessary item that is related to the skill advancement quests (mostly the scavenger skill quests). Check the patch notes to find out who and what to look for
